Took my first "fam" flight on the Marianas Map tonight.  Looks Great!  🤞

One question though -- what's with the Antenna Tower just right of the centerline for Rwy 07 at Saipan???

I nearly hit it in my F-16 as it's almost right in the landing path...

After a change of virtual underwear 😉😁 I went to Airnav to look that up....

        Airnav -- PGSN

Not a peep about it in there -- Is that really supposed to be right in the flightpath for Rwy 07?

Regards,

4 S!

PS> Not a knock on the map at all, just an honest question born of a near-miss.   The map overall is Great!

That Antenna Tower is the Saipan NDB ("SN"), whether it should be this tall is a good question. It certainly seems suspect considering that this is an instrument runway. If you have any good pictures showing the antenna (irl i mean) that would go a long way in improving the situation.

Everybody said: "That's impossible!" Then someone came along who didn't know that and just did it.

I believe height issues with the NBD towers has been reported here with pictures for reference:

So it has been. Good catch, forgot about those. Especially since one of them is in the Wishlist for no apparent reason.

That might've been my mistake with the "NDB models" thread, I think I accidentally put it in the wishlist rather than bugs and issues.

Then again, most issues that I've reported end up getting moved to the wishlist anyway, for some reason.

But yes, they're comically large compared to what they really look like, and the LOD makes them incredibly hard to see until you're pretty close to them, and that doesn't help either. Especially in aircraft with poorer visibility when looking ahead and downwards (like the MiG-21bis).

There are many towers over there on the path to 07, both smaller and bigger, but not that tall to present any danger for landing aircraft. Just take a ride around:

They're the towers the approach lights are mounted on - at the moment it seems that Saipan's lighting system is incorrect.

Approach lighting was adjusted in 2.7.4.9632. Still not quite there yet though.

Those big ones seem oversized for a single bulb 🤔

Nonetheless, the ones further from the runway only have a single bulb.

Yep. It's (supposed to be) a MALSR configuration, 2400ft in length measured from the threshold. The outer ones are supposed to be (and are IRL) single sequenced flashers:
