SCPanda Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 (edited) Does TWS work still? 1. Scenario 1: bug the target in SAM and TMS right long to switch to TWS, does the jet lock the target and will the missiles track the target? 2. Scenario 2: use TWS to search the target instead of RWS, TMS up 2 times to acquire a lock, does the jet lock the target and will the missiles track the target? I cannot get my hands on DCS these days so if anyone could please let me know. Thx! Edited July 22, 2021 by SCPanda
Frederf Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Yes TWS works. 1. Bugging SAM and then switching TWS usually retains bug properly. 2. Yes TWS STT (as well TWS without STT) will support missile launches. RWS SAM will simply not show any indication that a target is bugged. There's no missile DLZ, no HUD TD box, no TA readout, range is XXX, cursor doesn't stick to bug, etc. Also in RWS SAM MANUAL if you drag the search zone off the target the antenna doesn't periodically go over and update it and yet the track remains.
Oceandar Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Hi Frederf, should the SAM mode triggers the lock warning on the target ? AFAIK it shouldnt from my experience in "other F-16 sim that cannot be named". Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
darkman222 Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) SAM (staying in CRM) mode does not alert the RWS of the bogey. STT will. Tested it some versions earlier. If it does now, its a bug then. Looks like its only a thing affecting the target designator box in the HUD or JHMCS. Next update it'll be fixed. Fingers crossed Edited July 23, 2021 by darkman222 1
Frederf Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Technically SAM can alert. It has a prolonged dwell of a few rapid track motions over the target between the scan periods. DCS isn't showing the antenna motions of the SAM updates. TWS doesn't move antenna special relative to the target. But obviously STT is painfully obvious in comparison. My understanding is that some RWRs can detect the difference between plain scan and SAM track at closer range. 1

Thx! Good to know TWS can be a temporary workaround before they fix this bug in the next patch. Edited July 23, 2021 by SCPanda

Yeah, I believe RWR will identify the radar signal as a primary threat (For example, on a F-15's RWR, there would be a diamond around 16), but no loud beeping warning sound like STT. 1
