Zorrin Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Thanks Zorrin for that insight. That was interesting and great fun to read! :) Now i gotta learn what vortex ring and all other heli stuff is and how it works, and how to save my butt from it. :D Regards Alex Well think of Vortex Ring is the helicopter equivalent of a Stall. Vortex ring can be induced when you are descending with a low airspeed and power. Basically the rotors go through their own downash and therefore lose lift. The only way out of it is to push the cyclic forward and build up speed... Of course if you're too low... Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
Flyby Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 thanks everybody!! thanks guys for the insights. I'm really looking forward to owning Black Shark:thumbup: I know it's a pie-in-the-sky thing (GGT) but thanks to the night time screens posted by Viper, I'm really looking forward to a ngith-combat capable gunship. I know DCS's version of the Black Shark has limited night combat abilities so that will have to old me for a while. One thing that Viper's night screen shot showed was exactly how dark night is in BS. It looks almost pitch black! I haven't seen night that dark since I tried to land a Hornet on a carrier in Jane's F\A-18. Breat job, DCS.:) Flyby out The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
MajorMorningWood Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Just adding my opinion real quik. Cockpit is simply amazing to click around in, the sounds of different buttons and toggle switches is great. The overall sounds are awsome, every thing from the main rotors thumping inside and out (flyby view sounds are bad a$$) to the sound of your wingman forming up. When you fire the cannons you compensate with a little left rudder and thats cool. Exterior visual model rocks. I have the graphics maxed except for water. Terrain mesh seems comparable to FS 2004 and thats ok because the look of cities and buildings more then make up for that. This is a must have for any true simmer. I will admit that I was not that interested in BS because I normally prefer to blow up Russian stuff ( and eventually will via the Hog and Apache) but I feel this a very accurate sim and is worth a good word. It has been very stable (no bsod or CTD) on vista 64, 4 GB PC6400ram, Q6600 @ 3.2, Nvidia 9600GT 512mb.
leafer Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Zorrin, thanks. That is what I have been wanting to hear about BS: The feeling of flight. I knew ED wouldn't disappoint. It sounds like there is a quantum leap in that department. Did I read it right that the in-flight fire started because you did something wrong during the start up procedure? If so, it's great that there is a purpose to cold starting the grasshopper. :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

crazysundog Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Turbines are a fussy thing, nothing like starting an R22!!
Phantom_Mark Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Sounds stupid maybe but the biggest let down for me is the trees are not solid meaning you can fly straight through them, the whole point of masking becomes pointless and skill'less to me at least, apart from that im really enjoying myself even if im flying it like a drunk staggering his way back from the pub :) I knew about the trees situation long ago btw...........still dont like it tho :D
Gary Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I'm not sure if this is something associated with the current engine but maybe it will be addressed in the western release if we are lucky and its not something too difficult to do.....however, I suspect if it was easy to put right, they would have done so for the Russian release. Guess ive just answered my own question there really!!!...lol Gary I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
ED Team Groove Posted November 11, 2008 ED Team Posted November 11, 2008 Its a engine limitation. Making trees solid would cost more performance than you can buy right now. Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Gary Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Groove, Thanks for the confirmation...I thought id read that somewhere on here previously. Regards, Gary I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
Flyby Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 about the trees, I seem to recall that radar detection won't be inhibited by them (is it like that in rl?), but in the sim will manpads or other defense systems be confounded when the BS hides among trees?
