Looking into switching to Vr. After some research and YouTube videos I think I have settled on either the reverb or index, leaning more towards the reverb for the supposed better clarity.

However with that being said, I'd like to hear from the vr flyers who have a lot more experience with vr.

Hi FireManDan,

sorry to jump on your train but I have pretty much the same situation. I saw a lot of people complaining about the cables being an issue and creating errors at the G2. So I would also love to hear first hand experiences from users about the two VR systems.

Take care,

My opinion, since I own both :

Index is the way better hmd in all regards - as long as you don't put on the G2 and see the "clearness". After that there was no going back, even so I tried very hard.

Now I use the G2 for flightsim and the index for everything else, specially room scale vr.

Yes, the G2 has a cable problem (already at the third and I think it is starting to fail again) but they are providing new cables now which hopefully will rectify this problem. Same should be true for the USB connection problems with AMD chipset boards.

How well can you read dials and text in the aircraft with both headsets?

I fly the Tomcat almost exclusively. For me the benchmark was the tacan dial. I could ss the index in a way that I could read it without leaning in but for performance sake {3900x - 2080ti) I lowered the res, so I need to zoom in. Same with the G2 but the G2 is more clear and has almost no SDE which is visible in the index. Hornet mfd are fine, maybe the map in the lower one was a little tricky. If it is your first time in vr, I belief that I still can fully recommend the index, specially if you plan to do more in vr. Alxy scares the shit out of me an I screem like a little girl under my index as headcrabs jump at me.

For flight sims only - Reverb G2.

Index would be great for made for VR games that use controllers, tracking is superb.

Alternatively you can get the Vive Pro 2 with the Index controllers - higher native resolution device but requires some power behind it.

I am using Vive Pro 2 now as I enjoy those other made for VR games from time to time. I run DCS in it with a PD of .7 and it looks pretty good.

The new cables have a signal booster which should resolve the connection errors. It also has a much needed on/off switch.

They didn't change the build quality of the cable/headset connector, so you still have to be careful with routing it around the headset.  eg. make a U around the side of the left speaker, and velcro it in place at the back. (the plastic clip is junk)
