sirrah Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 (edited) This is not so much a wish for improved AI or to add more units, as (1) I know this is already constantly under construction by ED, (2) me wishing for AI improvement isn't going to speed up the process and (3), I'm confident that ED already wants to add more infantry units, it just takes time. So, I'm not asking for infantry improvement such as finding cover, enter and attack from buildings/roofs, use proper combat formations, react properly to danger, etc. Although everyone (at least the rotor-heads here) will agree that's something we do eventually need in DCS What I do however wish, is that ED would consider a (temporary) buff on infantry units, at least until proper infantry AI is implemented Right now infantry units are so incredibly stupid (and with that unrealistic), that they're completely obsolete. The only situation that might work, is infantry vs infantry. But put for instance an RPG team against any armed vehicle and they get shot down one by one as soon as they're in firing range of that vehicle (which as far as I've seen is always further than their own max firing range). With the Huey, Mi-8 and Mi-24 carrying and dropping off infantry is utterly pointless and useless. Which is just a waste of opportunities imho. Increasing the survivability of infantry units a bit would make the Huey and Mi-8 so much more useful again. For instance (but I'm sure people here might have better ideas) make infantry have some more hit points, to kind of simulate them finding cover when they're being shot at. I'm not asking for invulnerability or one RPG soldier taking on a tank, but at least a slightly better chance for infantry units to at least get into firing range (especially in urban areas). Or maybe just give them a buff once they enter urban area (as in reality they'd hide and attack from cover) Although I really love the Huey, after the big minigun nerf (which was probably justly) it has become pretty much useless (at least on MP servers). Which I think doesn't have to, if we could only drop off proper infantry units. I wonder what you guys think should or could (realistically) be done in terms of a temporary solution here. upyr1 Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 I'd love to see more fire arms for the infantry so we can have fire teams
Callsign112 Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 I don't know about temporary solutions, but with a growing interest in helicopters/tanks/artillery/infantry, I think we should be seeing more and more improvements/updates overall.
sirrah Posted August 21, 2021 Author Posted August 21, 2021 I know, and agree, but proper improvement takes time. And as I don't think this is very high on ED's agenda (maybe @BIGNEWY can chime in and prove me wrong ), I expect it to take a few more years before this is addressed. wouldn't it be easy for ED to, for instance, triple the hit points*, so that they have at least some use till then. *a little bit of trial and error testing would be needed here of course 1 System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

I wonder how long it would take ED to implement such a weapon. Considering a new vehicle takes them several months to develop, surely a new infantry unit with a Javelin could be done much quicker. 1 System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

I'd guess a lot has to do with what is already in DCS. I figure for small arms we need to be able to put together a realistic squad, platoon or company.
