TobiasA Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 You get a tail strike at 13.5° with the brakes not fully opened. Picture shows a tailstrike with still room left to the tarmac. Manuals and the picture shows that this should happen at about more than 15°, it seems the collision model for the extended airbrake is applied. Can't append the track, will append it to the next post due to size. Here is the track, hope it works (paused it in the meantime, might be weird) F-16_tailstrike.trk 1
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted August 19, 2021 ED Team Posted August 19, 2021 It looks to me like it is a collision model issue, the model does not actually strike. I will ask the team to take a look thanks 3 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? TobiasA Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 (edited) I had reported this some time ago, it was fixed, but the tail strikes too early (again?). F-16_Tailstrike_too_early.trk See attached track, picture is in the old thread (about the same right now, happens at 14 or something). The manual states >15 degrees AOA for a tailstrike risk, but I am unable to reach 15 degrees AOA while aerobraking, even when the speedbrake is on the 43 degree position (no override to 60). So, trying to aerobrake on 13 degrees AOA is pretty risky. Edited December 17, 2023 by TobiasA

But the fuel is pretty much gone, external is empty. However, the two pods pull down the nose, which you counter with aft stick... Probably pushing down the suspension. If this is correct then the manual is wrong.
