M05 Raven One....tips please? <SPOILERS>

I just tried this mission for the first time, and I'm not really sure what I did wrong.  I got all the way until Prince passes out, but I think the comms got messed up because an "escort" shot down Prince, then I turned to the south to egress from Iran, and the "escort" then shot me down.  l was already low on fuel, so I couldn't really burn and run.  What was I supposed to do?

I played the whole Raven One Campaign for 2 times, what I can say to M05 is that you have only to follow Prince all the time because you are his Wingmen and you have to do all same when you are not in a Dogfight or after kiss of for landing.
After Prince was shot down by the Su-30 I think it was and he will engage you just go in a turning fight with him and take the best out of the Hornet what a SU-30 can t make and what didn't let a an short range missile hitting your ass, don t care about fuel it ' s made like this that you are low on fuel and you really have to be scared not loose you power. Just fly after you did bug out the best altidude probably FL410 or higher for lowest fuel burn and get to the tanker.

So I am supposed to fight the Su30? With what? I don’t even remember having ammo loaded. The load out was two training missiles and the rounds were XXX.

Am I supposed to carry something different?

no  all  you got  to  do  is   out  turn  him  he  will  give  up  eventually  and  turn  back   and  then  you have  to mange  to get  to  tanker  with min  fuel  which i  mean  on  fuel  vapours  lol   i  just  made  it

no  if  you out  turn  him  he  cant  get  a  shot  at  you  and  he  runs  away  due  to lack of  fuel for  himself

You're supposed to find an opportunity to GTFO of dodge city. When you get into your fight with him, you find a way to break off the engagement and use cover and concealment to get out. He'll pop a few bullets off at you as his missiles get hung stored. He'll chase you for a few minutes, just keep flying max AB out of there and dodge when you have to. You WILL run out of fuel 5 minutes after you hit the coast, so dont worry about THAT part. You will get into a furball with him, but since you only have training rounds you arent going to be able to shoot him down. Just make a beeline for water when you see a chance, and watch your 6 the whole time. When he does call it off, go max conserve as best you can. The ultimate goal is to get feet wet.

Yeah, I stayed behind him this time and he broke off when I had 1500lbs left. I climbed up like a homesick angel and did endurance cruise @39000 to the ship. I tried to do an idle/space shuttle descent and time it perfectly but alas I had too much energy. (Gear down, flaps full, hook, speed brakes) I almost ejected to land on the deck. But I was a split second too late and had to swim.

I suppose you meant Optimum Range @ best altitude cruise, didn't you? Best endurance is meant for max time airborne, Optimum range is for max distance.

Nope, I meant endurance. I believe optimum range wanted a far higher altitude and faster speed. Viewing the two, I chose the one that wasn’t as difficult to attain and able to quickly determine my odds of getting close to or on a deck.

well either way, you're going to NEED to tank when you get feet wet. wouldnt worry too much about it anyways because theres a failsafe to keep you from failing the mission so long as you survive getting feet wet. Recommend watching this one...

That’s the thing, I tried locating the tanker and I couldn’t get it to come up on TACAN. The only logical choice for me was to either eject off the coast or attempt to land or eject onto the deck. (I was close) Maybe I didn’t use enough foul language with the SU-30?


Edit: that’s strange, I don’t recall getting the prompt to request a tanker. Maybe because my fuel was so low? Anyways. No complaints here. That’s a pretty intense scenario for a training hop.

Then that means the tanker script wasnt triggered. Maybe save a trackfile next time you try and do it so we can see whats going on Did you get any comms with the tanker?

Well if I can get to it, Ill try to play the mission this weekend. Ive already played through it, but can try to dedicate about 3-4 hours into it...

For some reason my refuel probe was going through the basket in this mission. Not sure what went wrong.

Did the coms at the very last second, got cleared contact, basket came down but my probe was just clipping through it. I'm pretty confident in AAR to know this wasn't a skill issue. I aborted refuel and redid the comms, basket despawned and came back down, still nothing. 

Still had fuel though (fought the su with no burner) so i just went in to land. Got a mission complete but no comms since im sure the script is waiting for 'you are taking fuel' to keep running. Feels kinda bad but its DCS, I still had massive fun with this mission.

Baltic, if you're reading this holy hell this campaign is the best buy in all of DCS!

One other minor thing, i was trying to form up on red prince when he declared joker and said climb to 28, but he was flying in a random direction and staying low. I eventually broke off, turned towards the carrier and climbed to 25, which is when he came back on comms and said something about turning it east (i think?) and re-appeared on datalink as green.

I wanna retry this mission and make that unwelcome guest eat the ground, but something tells me that's gonna break the mission. Still, gonna feel pretty good :3

it  does  when you  and  your  ai  are  refueling at the  same  time
