coolts Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 I have trouble separating close formation targets even in RAID or EXP modes. What's the most efficient HOTAS switchology to do it? My idea was. Sensor control switch RT in TWS, selects Rader on right DDI and assigns L&S (Primary) Undesignate, (switches bugged contact) TDC depress to designate bugged target as DT2, (secondary). Then I should have 2 targets for TWS launch. But..... It doesn't seem to work. How are you guys doing it in the heat of battle? Hulkbust44 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 I basically do all my radar work with NWS to step between tracks, SCS to attack format to STT via AACQ/FACQ, and raid to focus on groups. I also use the AZ/EL since I can break out tracks by altitude. SA format designation can't come soon enough...Mobius708 1

Hulkbust44 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Set L+S, yes. you just can't command a STT.Mobius708
Brass2-1 Posted September 16, 2021 Posted September 16, 2021 I feel like we’ve got two separate issues here. One is a switchology issue for designation of L&S. Coinciding we have a difficulty breaking grouped targets out. When you say the above method isn’t working, what’s the failure mode or point?
Solution LastRifleRound Posted September 17, 2021 Solution Posted September 17, 2021 One issue you're having is trying to make a DT2 in RAID. RAID is basically an overscanned STT. Bugging a new target in RAID will make the new target L&S and the new scan center. Another is you say you TDC depress an already bugged target to make a DT2. This would actually command STT on that track. It sounds like you want to make two bugs on a tight group. To do this, you must use EXP mode, as RAID will only allow one bug at a time. Bug a target in your group contact in TWS, enter EXP mode. Use NWS to step to the target you want to be primary. Use TDC to manually select the target you want to be DT2. Further presses of NWS should step between them. I don't know if DCS models this, but if the targets are close enough that they won't show up as more than one contact outside of RAID, then it is impossible to do what you want.

From a STT you can even have a separate STT, L+S, and DT2. I'm pretty sure even from RAID, if you have a track file you should be able to designate it, might not have radar contribution. Just can't do all this in DCS right now.Mobius708

Thanks for all the great answers guys. Edited September 19, 2021 by coolts [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals
coolts Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 Confirmed that LastRifleRound was right. My Combination of using RAID mode and fumble fingering the SCS and assuming that just because a track has the HAFU symbol its "bugged", when in fact its not.
