New to Reverb g2 issues

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to a G2 coming from a Rift S.
The clearity in the G2 and colors sure are a upgrade.
Apart from that im having some issues i cant seem to figure out.

1st my specs.

RTX 3070
Ryzen 5 5600x
32 GB Ram

SteamVR settings:

90 Hz
Motion smoothing on
Resolution per eye at 80% 2828x2768
Advanced supersample filtering on
Overlay render quality auto (high)

DCS settings are VR presets with even some settings lower like shadows but MSAA at 2x.

Okay, when i want to use VR i always get the message "SteamVR needs to set itself up for App Containers"
I get this when i open SteamVR and when i start DCS i get the message again.

Anyhow to disable getting this message?
When playing DCS in VR i notice my FPS does not always stay at a stable 45FPS.
In the cockpit it stays mostly at 45fps, but looking to the front and moving from side to side im getting a little double vision/ghosting. No matter how low i put my settings, it stays like this.
Looking exterior views my fps is going up and fluctuates between 45 and 90 fps depending where i look causing stutters.

How can i force this to stay at 45fps?
Im using standalone DCS world OB.

Last issue im having is when playing multiplayer and changing roles or sometimes during flight itself im losing a lot of fps and frametime goes up causing unplayable stutters.
I used to have this with my Rift S, and after upgrading my cpu and lowering terrain textures this got solved.
But now using the G2 this issue is back.
This sometimes dissolves itself after waiting some time and my fps and frametime goes back to normal.
Whats causing this? Memory leaks or something?

Edit: i have added my standalone version to Steam, and at the SteamVR Video tab at the Per application video settings i now see DCS WORLD OPEN BETA. But somethings off.

I have set motion smoothing at Force Always on.
But it seems like its not working. Also when i change the custom resolution multiplier at way different values, nothing has changed ingame.
Must i add a different path in steam to add DCS to be able to force motion smoothing and change its resolution multiplier?

Hope some experienced G2 users know how to fix these issues.

Edit: at the moment im only having unplayable stutters since upgraded to a new motherboard and having to reinstall W10 and W11.

Do you mean this message ?It's not DCS related, it's a SteamVR bug. I have a  open Ticket with steam on this issue, no solution yet ....
Ticket with steam  is HT-K2MG-6BDC-QW2Q. You should open a ticket too and refer to this ticket.

I seem to keep having performance issues with my G2.

I used to have a Gigabyte Aorus Elite v1. motherboard, and my g2 was working quite well apart from the as described ghosting/stutter when looking forward and moving side to side. And having fps loss when changing airframe, but alt tabbing out of the DCS screen and back in seems to solve this.

When i tried to upgrade to W11 my screen went black and seems my motherboard settings cant be restored to fix it. But thats another story...

I bought a new TUF B550 Gaming Plus motherboard, installed W11 without a problem. But mt fps wasnt stable and i decided to go back to W10.

But the fps issues persist. Being in the DCS homescreen my fps used to be 90.  Now its unstable fluctuating arround 90 with dips to 80 causing stutters.

Going to mission editor also used to be a solid 90 and now fluctuates with dips to 60fps causing stutters.

I tried to repair and reinstall DCS, upgrade bios, tried differend settings in DCS, WMR and SteamVR and Nvidia control panel, disabled HAGS, tried differend usb ports, updated all drivers. Nothing seems to help.

Wish i never went for W11, would have saved me my other motherboard and a lot of headache time spending to fix DCS for many hours in the paste weeks.

Also my Rift S worked great after i made some system changes like cpu and psu upgrade. Now with the G2 i feel like im 10 steps back.

What am i missing causing this?

What i also find strange is that testing in 2D my fps is 63, then can go up to 140 or even 200fps. And it can stay like that foe quite some time. I see my gpu usage go from 37% up to 99%.

And without a reason, still looking up in the sky or even being in the F14 cockpit, it goes back to 63 fps and 37% gpu usage.

Is that normal?

In my experience , I come from a rift s, you have wrong settings into steam Vr

SteamVR settings:

90 Hz

Motion smoothing on ------------ this must be OFF

Resolution per eye at 80% 2828x2768 WELL

Advanced supersample filtering on -------- this must be OFF

Overlay render quality auto (high)

In WMR you must select use steam vr settings

in steam per aplication (dsc beta or dcs ) try to select motion smoothig ---- "force always on" this last force to run ALWAYS a 45hrz (more than enough believe me)

then try to not use inside dcs AA (nor 2 nor 4 eats soo much frames) , and shadows (flat or even none), also in terrain textures try to swap between high and low (much better)

With this settings I have no motion blur, no ghosting and no shuttering.

Of course , F14 is with hind the most PC resources demanding modules.

Thanks for replying firefox121.

I've tried them all, making no difference. Also when i try the 'per application' settings, they do not seem to do anything.

With the per application setting motion smoothing set to forced, my fps still goes up into the 50's and 60's.

I just dont get it whats off. A few weeks back when i just got my G2 and was still using my other Gigabyte Aorus motherboard, it worked pretty good. No stutters. In homescreen and other menus a solid 90fps.

In the cockpits of the A10C and F14 it was all smooth compared to the stutters now wherever i look.

This morning i tried low resolution at 20% steamVR and the stutters were not there. But it looked like crap. When i went up with the resolution the stutters were back again at 50% steamresolution.

Somethings not right. I used to be able to put even 100% steamVR resolution with even 4x msaa and not even having these stutters and weird fps fluctuation im having now.

So since i had to swap motherboards and reinstall everything again this is happening.

Is it my motherboard? Is it something in Windows 10 or DCS?

WMR Cliff menu works smooth like it used to though.

I only can think then in some issuse with windows (drivers or something) ,try do disable windows game bar and windows graphis advanced (or somewhat), install all the updates for windows included the one that fixed problems with WMR , (bad sutther) and go deeper in your bios (Hypertreading on) XMS profile for memory , drivers for USB 3.0,  and so on, and check that all the fans are working good (High processor temperatures may cause sutters also)

Except from checking hyperthreading, ive already checked all the stuff you mentioned.

Things im going to try to see if they help.

-Hyperthread settings
- USB powermangement
- Steam VR/WMR swithing to beta
- Registry editor changes

I believe my W10 is up to date, few days ago it said there were no new updates.
Or do i have to manually install an important update which i forgot?

check also in nvidia control panel that you have FIXED LOD, also scalate image disabled and dsr OFF , nor x2 or x4 or something like that, I can´t figure out other things, sorry.

Check also the reverb is in a 3.x usb port so the 3.x USB drivers for your NEW motherboard has been installed properly, and enabled in BIOS

also check this stuff :

STEAM VR unistall

Did the uninstall following that guide yesterday without any difference unfortunately.
I will check the Nividia settings again if there are any settings that must have automatically changed since i only changed power management to max.
My motherboard has multiple USB 3.2 gen 1 and gen 2 which i all tried. Also updates to the latest drivers, but didn't check my bios to enable anything about USB ports.

Thanks for looking for solutions firefix121, much appreciated.

Checked it all, eventually it seems like the only thing that probably made a difference is selecting the SteamVR and WMR betas and/or slow repairing DCS and restoring Nvidia settings.

After doing this my fps in the menu's are a stable 90fps again.

But the most important thing thats bugging me is the in cockpit stutters no matter where i look, and this still isnt fixed.

I cant seem to make motion smoothing being forced. Being in the DCS application menu of SteamVR and forcing motion smoothing my in game fps still goes into the 50's and 60's being in the cockpit.

Having it forced i assume the fps in the main menu should also be forced to 45fps right? Which isnt happening.

Even though, before when i just got my G2 still using my other motherboard and before i reinstalled W10 i didnt need to force it, it worked pretty great with not these stutters going on right now. So something else is still off, and i have no idea anymore what else to try.

Its driving me real crazy again and iam thinking about going back to the Rift S having a simple menu with settings which just worked without all the stuff going on with WMR and SteamVR.

I opened the OpenVRsettingsUX.exe to try those settings.

Motion reprojection was disabled, tried all the options, steamvr per app, auto and motion vector.

They caused the fps go to 36fps and some weird tiny visual artifacts but the stutters were still there.

Also the DX11 setting didnt make a difference.

Reinstalled W11 today, again, same performance with stutters as W10 did.
Tomorrow im going to install the stable version to check its performance.
Been reading in the 'Performance bugs" section of the forum a lot of guys having a performance downgrade since the latest open beta patch causing stutters.
Who knows its just an DCS only thing. SteamVR Cliff and other demo's working perfectly, so it might be just only DCS causing the stutters and FPS dips.

you need to find all the steam areas VR and delete those, you are getting the same issue I had when I moved my Steam VR setting around, and then moved stuff to another hard drive so its looking in a different area, that you may have moved from?

so check all you'r Steam areas you may have had the Steam VR installed at.

Been busy for hours again today. Deleted open beta and installed stable (due to disk space).

Even repositioned my cpu with new cooling paste.

Deleted everything of Steam/Steamvr and WMR, again. Sometimes its even worse giving me again stutters in DCS homescreen with 60fps while other times homescreen is 90fps but then again still a stuttery mess being in the cockpit.

I decided to install my Rift S again. And within 5 minutes installing it i put the headset on and started DCS, and everything was butterly smooth like it always used to be with a stable 80fps everywhere.

So.. its a G2/steam/steamvr/wmr thing causing me the stutters and the unstable/fluctuating fps and not a DCS or other pc hardware related issue.

But why is this happening? Is it software related? I have reinstalled everything multiple times by now without fixing it.

And it used to work before i changed motherboards.

Or is it a connection problem between the G2 and the usb ports on my motherboard?

I have the latest bios and drivers that should have fixed usb problems reported earlier this year.

Isnt there anyone here on the forum who has experienced the same issue im facing right now?

Testing the G2 again the stutters are still there after again another reinstall of all the software.

I used to not have these stutters even at 100% SS in steamvr, motion smoothing on at 90hz and having DCS set at 1.0 pixel density.

I used the su25 first instant action mission as a benchmark.

Now with these settings my fps is locked at 60fps with some spikes higher and lower with the stutters everywhere.

When i put pixel density at 0.5, the stutters are gone and my fps is at a solid 90fps.

When i set it at 0.6 the main hangar menu is mostly 90fps. In flight the stutters are back and then fps is fluctuating in the 80's

Set at 0.7 my fps is back in the 60's with stutters everywhere.

What the hell is going on?

My ticket with SteamVR got closed by Steam after i refused to reinstall Windows to fix the problem with the permissions popup.
I have the feeling that Steam has 'larger issues' [sic] with all kind of PCs running SteamVR ...

"Reinstall Windows" is a horrible solution...

Actually, maybe I'll use that as my go-to answer when someone at work complains about any software that I support 😄

I think I had this issue of not being able to force 45fps reprojection. There is another menu besides SteamVR which can affect reprojection. I think it is SteamVR-WMR menu accessible through Steam menu in VR.

Setting the reprojection there enabled it to me after having issues of 60ish fps stuttering and could not lock in 45fps.

I can give more detailed instructions how to reach this hidden menu if necessary (and when I get in my PC).

Hope this helps.

You mean the menu where you can select motion vector and DX11?

If so, i already tried those settings.

But i shouldnt be needed to do all this to make this crap working again. I feel like this is rocket engineering searching for the holy grail.

It worked without these stutters like 3 weeks ago or something, so this is making no sence why im having these issues. Been busy with this a lot of precious hours and getting pretty pissed.

i want to enjoy DCS again!

I think it was that, although cannot check it now. Too bad, i can feel your pain.

One more hint, disable all v-sync or frame rate limiters like afterburner statistics service, Steam or Nvidia fps limiters.

Beyond those, I am out of ideas.

When it says "windows out of focus" im getting smooth 90fps. When its focused its back to 64 spiking into the 70's with stutters.

When in OpenVRsettingsUX.exe and forcing DX11 the fps goes almost to a stable 90 with some small fps going up and down but it makes the homescreen almost totally smooth. In cockpit the stutters are still visible but way less without the DX11 option enabled.

Did you open up steam vr  settings and set your G2 to 100% and make sure to turn off the fluff? Like motion and such?
