We are working on the standalone version with a Radar more like the 104...but it will not be at all easy to operate 😉

I think it was JFK who said: "We choose to master the F-104 radar system in DCS not because that is easy, but because that is hard." 😄

Congratulations for the guy's working on the VSN F104!

I enjoyed already a lot, specially because I am now interfacing a real F104g with DCS-Bios and trying to get the old Viking 26+72 back in the air (so to speak 😉 )

Nice mod,but completely unuseable with the broken nosewheel steering. I can't even taxi the plane to the runway.

Press and hold the nose wheel control button LAlt+Q to taxi. Release it before takeoff.

This is exactly what I did and the Plane is still uncontrolable.

So I did another test today:  Press the key for Nosewheelcontrol- unlocked, release the same key- still unlocked, press the same key again...sometimes locked, sometimes unlocked.

Sorry, either I'm a noob with 35 Years of flightsimming on my back or this is clearly a bug.

The F-104 is a nice mod for sure, but if I can't steer the thing on the ground, it is useless for me.

Has anyone had issues with the F-104G? It is no were to be found in the aircraft drop down. Only the S and C. Historical filter is off, and the G shows up on the main menu instant action.

Look down towards the end of the dropdown menu, youll see it listed as VSN F104 or something like that. If its not showing up for you, then probably reinstall it, but before doing so make a new mission from scratch and see if it appears in the dropdown menu.

Ive reinstalled it twice now, still no dice. Only the C and S are available when creating a mission.

Its clearly something I am doing or Ive done wrong.

So there I was at 30,000 ft, high speed and decided to bring it down for a landing...reduced power, hit the airbrakes...soon I'm in a dutch roll which progressed into a rapid stall/spin, unrecoverable, had to punch out...

I imagine that sudden changes in configuration are a death warrant...

Is there any way to start the main engine in mid air? I was flying NF-104 and engine flamed out at 60 000ft propably because of the fuel pumps failed.

If you overspeed the aircraft for more than a few seconds you will not be able to restart the engine. R-Shift Home should work otherwise.

I've been a DCS user since the early days and own many of its FF-modules. But from a flying point of view, the F-104 mod gives me the most fun. Unlike the FBW-planes in this simulator, the Starfighter requires good flying skills and clever combat tactics otherwise it is difficult to be successful. VSN has created a mod that behaves as its pilots have described it in the specialist literature. It is super fast, climbs like a rocket and doesn't like to fly slowly at all. If you master these challenges, its contemporary opponents hardly stand a chance in an encounter. In my opinion a really successful module.

Now to my question:  In comparing flights between the G and S models, I can hardly see any differences in the flight performance, even though the S variant had the much more powerful J79-GE-19 engine (dry thrust 5385 kp instead of the 4492 kp of the G). Am I mistaken or have any of you had the same experience?
