I am getting the sense from the internet and some marketing emails that Varjo may be due to announce a consumer grade headset on the 21st this month (October 2021). I seem to remember a while ago a post from ED stating that Varjo was going to be supported natively.

Does anyone know if this is the case or do they require the steam vr "bridge" as with WMR.

AFAIK, with the VR3, the center OLED screen (with human eye resolution) is currently not supported by SteamVR (I could imagine significant fps drop with that), neither is motion smoothing.  You still need SteamVR to use it with DCS.  There are currently 3 major VR camps for general gaming, SteamVR (which historically uses OpenVR being transitioned to OpenXR), Oculus (hopefully going OpenXR), and WMR (now using OpenXR).  I think DCS currently supports SteamVR/OpenVR and Oculus, so any new headsets need to be compatible with either platform…until DCS goes OpenXR.

Good point about the reprojection... But as the answer said I think DCS supports varjo natively so an addition to what you have said above. Not sure as it's only been a commerical thing so far...

There are YT videos testing the VR-3 with DCS and even a 'DCS thru the lens' one, so they seem to work together. At least with the right hardware.
I am also looking much forward to the announcement on 21. Especially hope they'd get off the subsription fee.

Amazing clarity aside, in the first vid, he's flying low over Guam in the Marianas without reprojection at 40-50FPS with zero apparent ghosting! With my G2 and 3090 I have to enable Kegetys and FSR to achieve that. How's that possible ? Is is because there's no WMR or SteamVR involved and it's natively supported by DCS perhaps ?

No, as oculus can't achieve that either. Possibly just due to settings, we wont be able to see much detail on the recorded mirror

True. Second vid is through the headset - demonstrates visual quality but not performance unfortunately.
