@Victory205

Thanks for the reply,

What type of seat-of-the-pants feel did Pilots use to help them make Power adjustments to maintain Glideslope? Was it a heave or a settle type feedback? I assume watching the FPM or VSI was secondary to experience and feel? I remember you even mentioning that Pilots rarely used the HUD on the Tomcat.

I'm trying to build a Motion Simulator to provide some of that feel so that us basement Flight Jockeys can add a little more realism and authenticity.

Thoughts?

Interesting insights on the DLC from Grumman test pilot Kurt Schroeder from 43:34 onward, especially regarding pitch changes.

Don't the autothrottles also need to be set to the correct settings on the Hot, Cold, Norm switch on the left based on OAT [outside air temperature](think it was either above or below 80 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit OAT)

Does this have to do with OAT having an effect on engine thrust outputs at low altitude and or spooling times\schedule?

One thing I noticed yesterday is that with DLC aft (spoilers retract)  there is an automatic stabilator shift to counter the pitch moment. However with DLC fwd (spoilers extend) there is none, literally 0 coupled stab shift. Is this correct or a bug? Because it would explain said behavior.

That is correct.

Here’s a novel thought. If the nose it pitching up when you make DLC inputs, then don’t let the nose move when you make DLC inputs.

Don’t know how many times it’s been repeated, not to mention that it’s covered in detail in the NATOPS carrier ops verbiage, as to what and how DLC should be used.

There are cleanup items that have already been inputted for the next hotfix. One input impacts many others and requires additional tuning. It’s a trivial matter, all things considered. The pilot ultimately puts the aircraft where it needs to be.

We also practiced no DLC/No Speedbrake passes. Learn to control rate of descent with power or you are going to struggle mightily.

Have any of you tried a single engine landing at the ship or ashore?

Thanks @Victory205 as always for your guidance.

I'd have a question regarding the DLC functioning, as described in NATOPS F-14B 8.5.4., it says in the note:

"Automatic pitch compensation for DLC activation is optimized for approach angle-of-attack speeds. Activation of DLC at higher airspeeds will result in inducing noticeable changes in pitch attitude."

Does that mean, that this pitching up we experience right now should normally not occur and will be removed in the future hot-fix(es) during cleanup or we should get used to it?

It’s in work with the primary effect already addressed. Might make the next hot fix but no promises.

However, every change is intertwined and effects other aspect that have permutations that have to be checked, those with physics aero backgrounds understand why.

Sure thing, thank you for clarification and can't wait fot the final state, this FM is really feeling well and getting better now.
