The first step that takes the most time is cleaning up the original cockpit textures. (Which means remove 90% of all this too much over-the-top scattered-literally-everywhere scratches, dirt and rust on aluminium and plastic to make the cockpit more appealing neat clean and comfortable, but still keep some wears and tears to keep it realistic looking). This is almost finished and the dark grey ejection seat is implemented too.

The second step is doing the perfect shades of grey to create an interesting two-tone look with middle grey and black just like my Hornet cockpit. This will become the true Jedi master cockpit.

The third step is creating a stealthy black cockpit with LCD-screens, black ejection seat and a Falcon emblem on the fur of the ejection seat to make the stealthy black cockpit a little bit more personal. So I can upload three Falcon (or Viper) cockpit variants when it´s finished ... 🙂 I can add your picture into the cockpit if you want and re-upload it again for you, but it will take a few days until my Viper cockpits are finished.

Great work! looks more "natural" to me like the real life ones.

Ok, thank you for your kindness about the pic. If i decide go for it i´ll message you, if you don´t mind.

I don't want to bust your chops but you're doing something wrong.

The F/A-18C plane is 1.26g.

Your cockpit paint job is 1.37g.

Cockpit paint jobs are normally around 225mb.

I don´t make low quality stuff full of compression artifacts and ugly low colour bit depth mach`lines 🙂 ...... my cockpit repaints are always 500-800MB for Flight Sim 20 too (I often keep the work in progress Photoshop files in seperate folders so others can easily modify my repaint, that´s why the cockpit has sometimes more than 1GB), and it runs without problems on a Ryzen 5 Vega 11 APU (which means: I currently don´t have a graphics card in my computer.) Don´t worry there are no performance issues noticable on my rather weak machine without graphics card.

See: No graphics card, only 2GB VRAM Ryzen 5 2400G Vega 11 - and I don´t have any performance issues whatsoever with my cockpits. The Hornet and Viper cockpit textures run with a blast on even the cheapest low and mid range graphics cards.

In maybe one year these insane graphics card prices will be normalized and I will again buy a graphics card. For a normal price of 400€ - instead of 1000. In the meantime the Ryzen Vega 11 APU will be good enough.

Today I managed to get the ugly deep black scratches off from the footrest, and tested black pedals black air condition grill and black ejection seat:

The black ejection seat looks very good already, but I have coloured the whole file to test which dark tone fits best in the cockpit and need to take the original file, cut out all the yellow parts like the eject hand grip etc. and put these details with the original colour in again. Otherwise the yellow eject handle and other details like warning signs are to dark and miscoloured on the ejection seat:

Unfortunately I cannot load Nevada Area 51 for unknown reasons - so no screenshots from the Viper on the home range until this problem is solved...

@JetCat i have a rather "old" GTX 1080Ti 11gb DDR and i use a bunch of cockpit liveries for the Hornet and a few for the Viper, and i fly only in VR, and no problems with quality/performance. So, keep up and bring quality as you usually do with cockpit liveries 🙂 really eager to test your Viper liverie.

Take your time.

Best regards,

F.

I wasn't talking about performance but size. I never mentioned performance. How can a cockpit paint job be bigger than the whole plane? I have limited space on my SSD and i'm careful what I install.

Fair enough. Starting to have the same issue on my SSD´s, i should have installed everything in one drive and then move to another, now i have space limits in +2 more drives.

Yeah, I can't install Persian Gulf anymore. DCS and Win 10 must have grown since I had PG installed before. I'll need to break down and buy a bigger SSD but my system is getting old and I hate to spend any money on it.

Need more storage space? I recommend the awesome Western Digital Game Drives, 13 terabytes of finest data with relative fast 130mb/s write-read rate. 🙂 (Not as good as an NMVe drive but still fully usable). I love the techy and prototype-like design of these drives... The computer will soon be updated with a third 2,5" WD_Black 5TB drive but they are a little bit on the expensive side so I need to wait some time for easter sales or black friday or whatnot.

And some screenshots of the new dark stealthy version of the cockpit that made some progress too today. Unfortunately I need to redownload DCS because the Nevada map is not launching that´s why I cannot continue with the cockpits today.

You may want to start a separate thread in the Viper forum and continue the discussion over there, since we are talking about an F-16 skin. Looks great!
