Jester, quit complaining and help me! Landing the A model assistance

Hi all, I have a confession. I'm one of the strange ones.... I love the A model over the B. For BFM, air to ground or orbiting I find the A easier and more precise. I don't bleed my energy as easily and I can generally get it to do what I want except one small minor area..... Getting back onto the boat is a b!tch in comparison to the B! The B I can do case 1s fairly consistently and get either 3 or 4 wires but case 1 in the A and I'm all over the place, invariably end up too quick out of the final turn, float high. Counter too much, get slow, fall through glide slope and then wave off trying to miss hitting the back of the boat! It's not pretty! So here is the thing.

Jester providing speed call outs in BFM has drastically improved my energy management and flying. Could he do the same again in the final stage of a case 1? The others recovery situations are fine as I have longer to get speed and glideslope sorted but some speed calls for that final leg might just save my bacon! The occasional 130, 140 would really help and stop Jester complaining when he really has to go!

I believe you don't need speed, I wouldn't even know what speed I'm recovering. Just keep the AOA, that's all too it (Easyer said then done), speed will result from that......

Disclaimer: I'm a noob and the above statement is just my experience.

Thanks both but my issue with the A is the delay in the energy delivery so I end up chasing it. The B I am confident in but I think I need to be more proactive in the A rather than reactive which is where calls would assist.

Like you say, easier said than done.

But speed calls, how could they help?

Speed, as in indicated on the instrument, is the only parameter I don't check after being downwind. Until then, given, it is kinda important to hit some marks, but that would be only the 350 (400 whatsoever), 300 for wings forward, 250 for gear 220 for flaps. After that my limiting brain forgets that there is a indication for that and I start to focus on AOA, altitude and sinkrate. Given, I'm still not confident that I can hit it with the instruments alone, so I glimpse at the HUD. Have to work on that....

I'm with you, coming from the B, the A is a PITA, but I believe it's just a matter of training.

Be proactive, fly the donut (it’s in your eyeline for a reason) and anticipate throttle requirements that the ‘A’ needs over the ‘B’.

Personally I prefer the ‘A’ , but if you are okay in the ‘B’ you are already on the way to being comfortable in the ‘A’ . Just understand that there is a excess thrust and spool up time difference, anticipate and act accordingly.

Pilots would get the RIOs to give them descent rate call outs, or just stay quiet, but it depends on what each individual pilot wanted from their RIO... Also, the RIO would call the ball over the radio so why aren't we hearing Jester calling the ball?
