CaptScotty Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 When I am flying the F/A-18 and attacking ships, I use the SEA A/G radar to designate the target. Picks them out very well. When I switch to the targeting pod, it jumps to the target but is not in the ball part. As I get close to the target, I'll use the SEA radar to re-designate the target. Still not in the ball part. Even at lowest zoom on the TGP, I can't see the target. If I don't sue the TGP pod, I always miss with Laser Guided Bombs. If I move the TGP around I can sometimes find the target and re-designate the target and then it shacks. Anyone else having that problem?

Basic question, but how are you designating the target on the radar? For that you don´t use the target designator button, but the sensor control switch into the direction of the MFD you radar screen is. Could it be that?

I'm using the TGT Designator not the sensor control switch. Did not know it worked with radar. 1 hour ago, BIGNEWY said: Please include a short track replay example of the problem. thanks 1 hour ago, CaptScotty said: When I am flying the F/A-18 and attacking ships, I use the SEA A/G radar to designate the target. Not very graceful. Just learning. Tacview-20211107-101507-DCS-Stop Chinese ship with Laser bombs GBU 10.zip Tacview-20211107-111820-DCS-Stop Chinese ship with Laser bombs GBU 12.zip
Recluse Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 (edited) So for Laser Guided Bombs, you can get close enough that the target is outside Radar Gimbal limits and it is lost. You need to switch to FLIR as the primary sensor. I believe there is still a bug that this happens automatically whenever you have a radar contact and switch to FLIR. Certainly makes it easier, but is apparently not quite right as you should have to specifically designate with the FLIR, which can be problematic to slew around for a PTRK. From a fair distance when the target is within Radar GImbals, when switching to the FLIR you should get a good target picture. As mentioned, you need to use Sensor Control switch to lock a target with SEA radar, otherwise you are just designating a piece of ocean, and it is no surprise that you wouldn't be able to find the target in the FLIR. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 9, 2021 ED Team Posted November 9, 2021 Yes, sensor control switch to lock the target with SEA radar. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing?
