Nealius Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Prior to cat launch the pilot wipes the controls and turns on external lights while at full MIL or burner. This is impossible on the freeware carriers (Stennis, Forrestal) because launch occurs automatically at 100%, thereby denying any opportunity to wipe controls or do any other final checks. This is a fundamental part of simulation and should not be paywalled. The Tomcat has a keybind to trigger launch on freeware carriers. The Hornet should too.
MARLAN_ Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Would be very nice if in addition to the "salute" command, there was also a "launch" command. Catapult will not launch you until you select launch. Will greatly help with timing covey launches, and for the reasons you mention above. While they're at it, add an "abort" command which will allow you to detach without needing to respawn. Crazy thought: don't advance throttles to 100% before performing your control wipe and/or final checks? ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 8, 2021 ED Team Posted November 8, 2021 I will mention it to the team, but this is not a bug, it has always been this way for the freeware carriers, even before the supercarrier was a thing. Moved to wish list for now. thanks 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? My understanding is that control wipes are always done at either MIL or full burner. @BIGNEWY The Tomcat’s launch command for the freeware carriers has also always been a thing before the Supercarrier. I see no reason why the two modules shouldn’t have parity in that regard. Edited November 8, 2021 by Nealius

Don't have any written sources that I could give you, sorry. Just from talking to RL pilots. Please, let me ask: where does your understanding with regards to MIL or burner come from? Logically, the control wipeout needs to have correct hydraulic power, not necessarily full thrust. Legacy Hornet NATOPS specifically states to advance throttles to MIL or MAX upon deck crew runup signal, cycle flight controls, wait 4 seconds, do a couple more checks, then salute for launch. (A1-F18AC-NFM-000; 8.2.8 "Catapult Launch"). Earlier in chapter 8 it specifically mentions stabilized MIL power under tension.

I would kinda guess they see that as a low priority, because it fundamentally is not essential for the game as is, especially in combination with the included free carriers, but that way it could go to the extended to-do list! i7 - 9700K | 32 GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 2080 | VKB Gunfighter Mk II /w MCG Pro | Virpil T-50CM2 Throttle | TrackIR 5 | VKB Mk.
