Mike Force Team Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 I have a request for a new DCS map. I call it the Bering Strait Map. Here is the URL for a website that shows military bases in Alaska: https://militarybases.com/alaska/ Military bases such as Elmendorf AFB can be used to host the F-15, various jets, and even gunships. On the other side of the Bering Sea in Russia, there are military bases. Here is the URL for a map that shows Russian bases near the Bering Sea: https://www.americansecurityproject.org/russian-arctic-military-bases/ Virtual pilots with Russian jets, choppers, and warships can also participate in naval "meet-n-greet" encounters with the American military. From what I understand, the current DCS maps might cover approximately 800 KM of distance. Can the folks at ED create this map?
upyr1 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 The only problem I could see with this map, is the simple fact it will be huge.
Northstar98 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 +1 Though, personally, I'm more of a North Atlantic person (including at least Iceland), but a Bering Strait map could be very interesting. According to Wags in a recent interview, the current terrain technology allows for maps that are 1500 x 1500 km. 8 hours ago, upyr1 said: The only problem I could see with this map, is the simple fact it will be huge. Shouldn't be that populated with objects though, my main gripe is that if we stick to our flat maps we're inevitably going to have significant distortion. Exorcet Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I used to think this would be the perfect DCS map, but when I started researching the area I realized how far inland the US bases are in Alaska. Their location would possibly force the map to leave out Russia. Would still like it someday when map technology improves. Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files

As much as I'd love to fly a Viper from Eielson AB (only because I've been there for an exercise some time ago ), I agree with @Exorcet, that flying against the "Russian threat" from here (or any US air base), would mean extremely long flights before even getting close to the Bering Strait. We're talking about 500km here, just to get from Eielson AB to the Bering Sea and another ±100km to get feet dry into Russia. Although I really liked the beautiful nature there, I personally don't think this map would be very interesting for those of us that don't have more than 4 hours available per DCS session (most of which spend flying in a straight line). Each their own, and I wish you luck on your wish, but I'd rater see Balkan, Gulf war 1 area, Fulda Gap, Afghanistan (Kabul area) and/or Korea (or, when thinking big: Vietnam) System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH

I'm just thinking about the system requirements. Just for scale Alaskca compared to the condiguous states I don't know how far bases on the Russian side are but Elmendorf is in Anchorage and Eilson is in Fairbanks.
