Rogago Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Hello guys So I resumed playing for being absent for almost a year (without GPU) and my stick was getting stuck in some weird position like without tension from the spring, moving freely but with very limited range of movement, kinda hard to describe but pretty much useless. So I opened it up to see what was going on and I found that this part was broken in 4 points (pictures attached), it was very hard to remove this part like if it was stuck in the rods where the little springs are, so I greased those up and rotated the part 180° and it seems to work fine but it makes a cracking sound everytime I use the stick. Has this happened to anyone? Do you think Thrustmaster could sell me this part? Or maybe I could 3d print or machine something that could work? Any advise or feedback is appreciated. Thank you! Lange_666 Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 I'm not of any help here regarding your problem but if you need to cash out for a replacement, compare that to what you have to pay for a Virpil WarBRD base and if it is within your budget, don't hesitate and buy one. You'll be in for a very nice threat and if you're using Target software, you can reprogram the Virpil base so that Target still sees it as a Thrustmaster one. 1 Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Lange_666 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 (edited) There are 2 minor drawbacks but easily solved. - The metal TH stick is to heavy for the light springs that are installed in the Virpil base so the stick will lean forward. The base comes with an extra set of heavier springs, if these are installed, the forward lean is minimum, easily corrected with a recalibration and as good as unnoticable. If you find these still not heavy enough, there is an extra heavy spring set available but that's an extra order. Personally i'm fine with the standard heavy springs that come with the base. - The base plate is a bit to light for heavy use since the heavy WH stick is on top and can flip when lots of force is used. Not a problem for regular flying but heavy dogfighting or acrobatics can lift/flip the Virpil base. To cure this, i used the base plate of the WH and drilled 4 new holes in it for the Virpil base to attach. The Virpil base will cover the old ones so it all stays nice and clean. xoxen Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 I found similar cracks at my Warthog but they did not cause any malfunction of the stick. Anyway I contacted the TM support and was able to buy a new part. I don´t know the name of the part in TM language anymore nor the price. But the new part also shows cracks in the meantime. But if you have a careful look at the funktion of thew stick you will see that the white ring is the one to be the "bearing". What you can do as well is to install everything in 4 positions as you can install it in 90 deg angles with the same funktion. What I figured out is that I have play in one position and no play in the other. And in the third there is a slight stickyness etc. So it is worth playing around with this a little. Anyway, the anser to your initial question is yes, you can buy the black part incl. the white ring at TM. If you can add a picture to your request this is helpful, otherwise they ask you to upload it to a specific folder they send you the link for. If it's within your budget, you should realy do. The difference is night and day. Lange_666 explained everything worth to consider pretty good, nothing more to say. Maybe one thing more if it wasn't clear: Virpil uses the same connector as TM does, so you can use the Warthog grip on the Virpil base. Burt Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 I’m sure these guys are right about the Virgil I think I’m gonna take their advice. My TM base needs alittle rest. The Mongoost T50 looks good also. Looks well built too. Lange_666 Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 The Mongoost T50 is made for mounted setups (with extensions). It comes without baseplate. Burt Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Gotcha I guess I would have to get a Monstertech plate as I use desk mounts from them.
