Darkxv Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 I've been having problems with the AGM-65 maverick flying the f-16. I recorded tracks of me demonstrating the issue. It seems the seeker likes to lock the ground below/infront of targets. Here are the tracks attached below The first, where I just leave it to do its thing and auto handoff the target with the TGP. Youll see the agm-65 does get a lock but for some reason its locking the ground below and skewed off to the side of the targets... there are two targets I fire agm-65's at, and they completely miss and hit the ground. and a third target i drop a laser guided gbbu-12 on. the second track, is where I do the same exact run, but this time manually adjust the agm-65 track by slewing it above/behind the target and then hitting tms short/lock. I do this with both the first and second targets, get direct hits.. and again drop gbu-12 on the third target. This is not the only case of this. I've had the same experience in other instant action missions, other missions, custom missions, and even from ground starts where i boresight my tgp with the agm-65 seeker heads. It absolutely needs to be fixed if it is a bug, or if its just me and my installation and files that need to be fixed then please help me figure out how. Not all targets are easy to make adjustments on like these. Instant Action - Precision Preemption - No AGM-65 tgt adj.trk here is the second file below where I manually correct it by targeting above/behind the target to get an accurate lock Instant Action - Precision Preemption - with AGM-65 tgt adj.trk
Tholozor Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Problem is that the Maverick seeker is locking onto terrain objects near the target. LGBs won't exhibit that problem since they guide onto the laser. Chalk it up to old DCS core tech. Might see improvements with the upcoming new FLIR render. Darkxv Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 So you don't think there's possibly the lucky chance my game files could have something to do with it? Do you experience this similar phenomenon? Man it would be the dopest thing for christmas if they figured out whats happening or added a zoom function to the maverick seeker head or something, or just fixed whatever it is.... idk.... I just wished my mavericks would hit the targets I locked them onto that's all. It's already tough enough having to go back and forth between the TGP and WPN.. now I have to adjust the target crosshair above the targets after switching back and forth with only 12 miles to go going 450 to 650 knots...... gosh.... very hard work... good thing in that quickstart there weren't any intercepting bandits around.

Darkxv Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Yes, I know it has a FOV and I used it in my tracks Listed above. I mean a zoom function added too the FOV function. Like on the TGP... You have wide/narrow FOV and Zoom for both of them. Edited November 29, 2021 by Darkxv *added to the FOV, not instead of FOV*
Tholozor Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Can't really use zoom that way because in reality the zoom function is digital, all it does is enlarge the image with the same pixels, it doesn't add new information to the image. FOV is different because it's a physical process by switching the lens used in the camera/seeker aperture. Darkxv Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 (edited) I see.... Welp.. guess well just have to pray that the new FLIR Render update gets these agm-65's to stop liking the ground. Thank you for the help Tholozor and Deano. I appreciate you checked out the tracks and verified I'm not just crazy lol. Edited November 30, 2021 by Darkxv
fatboypilot Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I've had the same issue with the AGM-65Ds. I'll mark the targets with the Target Pod, TMS up, then swap to the weapon screen, and TMS up, and nothing. I'm also having issues with the polarity of White Hot and White Cold. When I try to swap them, the only thing that changes is the color of the queueing system, not the actual image. When I try to pan the seeker head of the AGM-65D or H in the weapon page, all I get is two parallel bars with no cross hairs to see where the seeker is looking. The whole weapon system is broken compared to the mavericks in the A-10C and A-10C II modules. I stopped using AGM-65 with the F-16 and just use JDAMs and LGBs. It was too frustrating.
Frederf Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 The polarity thing is correct. You're telling the missile to look for black spots on a white background or white spots on a black background. The crosshairs change color to reflect what spot color is being looked for. The video itself does not change. Realistically if the crosshairs are black and the tank is white (or vice versa) the missile shouldn't track it. Right now the polarity preference is optional. The missing crosshairs seems to be a graphical issue. The crosshair lines are so skinny that they are getting blurred out of existence, possibly by AA. Try updating graphics drivers, turning off anti-aliasing, or changing other graphics settings to see if you can see the lines again. AGM-65G and K have area track capability which isn't compatible with TGP point automatic handoff. Further the H and K models are CCD and also not compatible with automatic handoff as the TGP must be in an IR mode. (TGP area to MAV area and CCD TGP to CCD MAV may or may not be capabilities in this version). The ABC should align the missile to the TGP LOS first mechanically, then by image comparison which should make tracking the wrong target a rare event. DCS seems to just be doing the mechanical stage which makes wrong target track much more common. 1
