Hi Sanc2775,

What the other have asked, what DCS settings are you trying to run? What resolution are you trying to run them at, IE your monitors resolution? What is your FPS performance now?

Definitely upgrade your GPU if you're running that resolution, I'd say 3070 or 6800 minimum.

DCS prefers Nvidia for higher resolutions. I am saying that as an AMD 6800xt owner, I am no fanboy. I would say 3070 would be a bare minimum. Go on Youtube and check out DCS optimisation videos by "Point Blank". A good used 2080ti would be really good for that resolution.

I have about the same spec machine among the servers I need to service, Intel X99 chipset, 2133MHz, same CPU, I actually built that thing about 6 years ago.

For a small server it's usually plenty but for DCS the clocks are not high enough and likely are the reason why you have severe fps drops.

That is a nice machine for anything but games that need max performance on 1-2 cores only. Max frequency is 3.6GHz for a core euqivalent to 6thgen Skylake cores iirc. Skylake was somewhere around 4.4-4.7GHz, those MHZ missing are your missing frames...and even if you had them it would still likely struggle from time to time with that architecture.

Hi Sanc,

based on my experience I gathered during my last upgrades (i7 4790K --> 5800X and GTX 1080Ti --> RTX 3080). I can conclude that the CPU upgrade brough no benefit at all. The GPU Upgrade brought appr. 50% more FPS. At your resolution I would say a GPU upgrade will raise your performance, nothing else. For sure an upgrade of the CPU is future proof and finding a GPU for a reasonable price is like winning in the lottery.

Install MSI Afterburner and use the On Screen Display to see the utilization of your CPU and GPU. If your GPU is running at 99-100% all the time, you got the proof that it is limiting your system. If it is running below that, most probably the CPU will be the limiting factor.

Take care.

Mistake with the GPU utilization, was 10%, need to be 100%

Hola Sanc,

Thank you for your information.

Hi Sanc,

by reading my own message in Spanish I recognized a mistake I did. The utilization in the last chapter needs to be 99-100%, not 99-10%. I hope you got it right already out of the content.

Take care,

Xoxen
