Hi folks,

Figured the Supercarrier section is best to ask this. I've searched every possible keyword both in English and in Russian on google to see if there's a source online somewhere about a Russian equivalent to a case 1 recovery for an Su-33. Is it broadly similar to the F/A-18? Does anyone know at all? Would be really great to know how to actually fly it correctly.

Cheers!

Well PLAN Aviation uses US NATOPS, adjusted for their equipment, for carrier operations. Down to color shirts. So likely PLAN uses similar or same Case 1 profile, as Case 1 is just traditional aviation visual landing pattern, adjusted for carrier.

Declare yourself inbound between 50 and 30 nm.

Declare "See you at 10" once visual on ship is established.

Enter marshalling circuit over head.

Transition to landing pattern after getting permission to land

Fly upwind on carrier's starboard(right) side at 800' to the starboard and at 800' altitude with hook down at 300 knots.

Break left at 22.5 bank desending to 650' and slow down to 150 knots (280 kph) knots and drop gear, flaps, and air brake if needed.. Come to downwind heading parralel to ship about 1 1/4 nm miles from ship.

Once nose is aligned with ramp, bank 22.5 degrees descending to 500' and intercept glideslope at 500' 3/4nm from ramp, at  140 knots (240 kph) speed.

If you entered groove with good line up and see OLS meatball. Activate SU-33 "Special power Mode" to hold speed of 140 knots( 240-250 kph) , flying the meatball. Which incidentally, also holds flight path marker over #3 wire. But meatball is prime indicator. If you use flight path marker, you are flying the deck, which is wrong, as it does not adjust for ramp heaving. Flying deck is a path to ramp strike, and almost always ends up being too low over ramp.
