Paradise Lost Campaign - Overweight or wrong engine managament?

So, I just started out on the Paradise Lost Campaign. and boy is it awesome. 

Though, I am having quite some problems, played throught first mission and started on second. 
But I keep finding myself out of power, either to *barely* takeoff land, or keep up with the AI flight. 
My throttle is at max, and the exhaust temperatues is but a hair from the redline. 

I am by no means a great helicopter pilot, so wondering if I'm missing something key here, or if I'm overweight and need to just deal with it.

Hey mate, in some situations you need translational lift to get her up. Sometimes when you lift heavy at HQ for example. Maybe it helps to watch how I did it. Also land and lift into the wind.

Yea, Had some luck using translational lift, though just skimming the trees. Nice take-off you did. 
I flamed out my engine on the LZ hover, dropping off troops. 
Guess I should work on my translational lift takeoff to lessen the engine stress in the transition phase TO->Flight->LDG

Huh, ok but in that case my guess is you stressed the engine already at that point. Do you keep the EGT at the first or the second red line. Know that the first is for continuous and the second only for emergencies!

Also note that a right pedal turn will give you more power when hovering out of LZs or lifting heavy stuff.

@SmartisCurrently in DCS you can cross the red line at TOT for max.110 sec. Then with some distance for max. 60 seconds.
This helps when it gets tight.
