TroubledTomcat Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 If this isn't allowed here, i am sorry. I have a cpu question. I have a asrock b450m-hdv v4.0 motherboard, rtx 5700 graphics card 32 gigs of memory and a 1tb ssd drive. My current cpu is a ryzen 5 1600x and looking to upgrade without breaking the bank. I use VR exclusively in DCS so my question is, what is a good cpu to upgrade too?
CptBligh Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Make sure your your BIOS is up to date and put a 5600x or 5800x in it https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B450M-HDV/index.asp MSI Z690 Edge | 12700k | 64GB DDR4 3200 | RTX 4080 Super | Varjo Aero
TroubledTomcat Posted January 28, 2022 Author Posted January 28, 2022 I keep everything up to date as much as i can. I check at least once a month for updates. It performs good right now, but i think some more horsepower will really u leash it.
draconus Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 you need a better card too, esp. for VR Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
TroubledTomcat Posted January 29, 2022 Author Posted January 29, 2022 My card is kicking ass. It's a RTX 5700 XT. I think my CPU could use a boost though

TroubledTomcat Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 Why would I be trolling? I had a honest question.
Digitalvole Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 3 hours ago, TroubledTomcat said: Why would I be trolling? I had a honest question. It depends what VR headset you are using. For example my Rift S worked great with my 1080ti but it was not any where near enough when I bought a G2 (at least if you want the G2 to look better than the Rift S). I currently have a 3090 and am very pleased with it but I still feel it only just manages (@100% SS with x2 MSAA using various mods such as FSR and a shader mod). What headset are you using? As for cpu I’m also very happy my 5900x and I bet the 5800x would be a good shout too.

I was asking because of your statement about your GPU. For a good vr-expierience in DCS your GPU is underpowered. Even a 3090 isnt enough ( i know what i say, because i have one ). So without ivensting money nobody can help u realy much. Sorry i wont attack you with my question. 1
Hiob Posted February 1, 2022 Posted February 1, 2022 Don't get distracted by the "never-good-enough-for-vr"-guys. It all depends on expectations and settings. On topic: Make sure that your Mainboard and firmware are fit for current gen. cpus (research on the homepage of asrock for your device - there should be a compatibility list). A Ryzen 5600X or 5800X will be solid upgrade and probably remove some bottleneck. If you're on a budget, even a 3700X would be a solid option. Good Luck! 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
