upyr1 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 We've got the UH-1, a community A-4, and the following on the way A-6, A-7, F-8 and a Naval F-4 sometime after the E. So why not get some Vietnam era ships? 7
Northstar98 Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) Hell, we're sorely missing ships for what's currently in DCS. The Forrestal currently has no 90s escorts (though you can fudge in the OHP and the Ticonderoga, though pedantically speaking, they're both from the 2000s). There's only 1 non-US BLUFOR ship (apart from the South Atlantic Asset Pack), and most REDFOR ships are in need of a graphical overhaul (and the Chinese Asset Pack ships aren't much better). Then again, the whole naval environment in DCS is sorely lacking, in just about every aspect. Spoiler Here's the current roster, excluding the South Atlantic Assets. Entries marked in yellow are planned/WIP, entries marked in green are present in the files. USA: CV - Aircraft Carriers: Forrestal-class: CV 59 Forrestal - c. 90s (post SLEP) CV 60 Saratoga CV 61 Ranger CV 62 Independence CVN - Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carriers: Nimitz-subclass: CVN 70 Carl Vinson - c. 1989 (legacy unit from Flanker 2.5 - in dire need of a major graphical update) Nimitz-Roosevelt-subclass: (all of which fire the wrong Sea Sparrow variant - should be RIM-7P instead of M). upyr1 Posted February 6, 2022 Author Posted February 6, 2022 I figure if we ever get Naval modules this would have to be one
Mike Force Team Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Yes, the naval aspect of ED has been neglected for quite some time. I hope that ED will update this component with more modern ships that work properly. MFT

Eagle's business model requires them to be constantly releasing modules. Changing something in DCS core even though it is welcomed is a drain on Eagle, but if they do the naval modules then the playable ships will cover the costs and add something to the game. I figure a period correct version of the Forestalls would be a good starting point. I'd also love to see the Galveston-class guided missile cruisers especially CLG-5 USS Oklahoma City not only because I'm from Oklahoma but also she holds the distinction of being the first ship to fire a surface to surface missile in combat she hit a NVA early warning radar with a Talos RIM-8H anti-radiation missile. They were refitted Cleveland class cruisers here is a photo of the OKC as CL-91 here is a photo after the refit as CG-5 The CL-91 incarnation of the OKC would go in the WW II asset pack and the CG-5 incarnation would not be. Then on the other hand we have ships like the USS New Jersey which are more alike than different. without going into too much She had her electronics updated, the dedicated AA guns removed and the captain turned a couple of gun tubs into pools. I'm not sure where to put her, except in a module. 1

Personally, I'm most interested in things like frigates/destroyer escorts and destroyers, then cruisers, then aircraft carriers and then logistics/amphibious stuff, don't really mind which. Though I know you're a fan of the Iowa. It would be idiotic to have any capital ship without the rest of the battle group. There are quite a few classes which I think would fit in nicely. Ideally if we ever get naval modules, I'd hope to get a few classes grouped together. I'm not sure how well that would work out, even if we don't I'd still like enough AI ships to build a period correct battle group Edited February 12, 2022 by upyr1 1

Anyway back to the point I was bringing up, what do you think of my suggestions that Eagle should put Korea and Vietnam era versions of the older ships in the WWII asset pack unless they went through some really drastic changes like the USS Oklahoma City, Essex-class carriers or the USS Gyatt which lost her rear turret when a refit changed her hull number from DD-712 to DDG-1 1
upyr1 Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 @Hawkeye60 and @Admiral189 do you think you might add some of these ships to your do to list?

upyr1 Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 The Des Moines class cruisers should be here as well as the Gleaves class destroyers.
