Hey all,

I'm trying to start up the BlackShark on top of a mountain FARP on the Through The Inferno server.  Left or Right will crank, but even after lifting the shutoff levers at 20%rpm neither of them catches and spools up to speed.  Is there a technique for extreme cold starts?

Please save a track and attach it here.

I just started it up the way I always do in -12C and it worked just fine.

where are you flying the BlackShark where it's always below zero?  And is there anything you have to do different in a cold cold start?

What I ment was: I started the KA-50 in -12C the exact same way like I always do in warmer temperatures.

I've done some more testing (Ambient temps, not temps at SL):

At 4886m altitude in -45C temps, unable to start APU

At 4886m altitude in +20C temps, unable to start APU

At 3114m altitude in -35C temps, able to start APU, unable to start engine

At 3114m altitude in -19C temps, able to start APU, almost able to start engine (dies at 21% instead of below 20% before)

At 3114m  altitude in +32C temps, able to start both engines

At 1700m altitude in -28C temps, able to start both engines

So it seems to be a combination of both factors, altitude and temperature.

What was the temp and altitude for your attempt? Your track doesn't work for me so I can't look at it.

The altitude is 3200m and temp is -21C (although the weather might be dynamic so I don't know exactly what the temp was on my first attempt in the actual server)

these conditions are in the range where you had the engine die at 21%rpm and that's exactly what happened to me.  So it was just to high and too cold to fly.  Which is too bad because my target was a mere 35km away.  I'll have to wait for warmer temperatures or make the long hop from a lower FARP.  Thanks for your research and sharing it.  It resolves this doubt in my mind.

I just spawned at Mozdok on a Quickstart mission.  I'm at 220meters and the air outside is 79 degrees F.  I'll have no problem cold starting now.  Happy skies!
