I doubt it, because I have seen the missile hit many times near ground targets and I think the damage is still reasonable and not too big

Here is an example video

And apart from that, other weapons in the DCS context do plausible damage against ships.

Otherwise, weapons like GBU31 and many others would do little or no damage against ships, but the weapons do reasonable damage.

so I think it's the Harpoon that's wrong here.

The video linkers was against Humvees with no armor. The RB-15 has a 5x boost for hitting armor. If a ship is modeled as having armor, you have a 7,000 kg TNTe detonation instead of 1400 kg for something without armor.

yes but the main point to this aspect was that it is not a small nuke when it hits land, the AOE is not overdone.

If used against land targets (fortunately, this isn't feasible), it would explode like a small nuke.

apart from that it doesn't matter in the end, we all agree that the damage of the RB15 is more plausible than what the Harpoon is doing at the moment and it would be desirable that the Harpoon gets similar characteristics.

It's still a 200kg warhead that makes a bigger boom than a Mk84. I wasn't aware of the armor bonus, that would mitigate the most obvious problems to some extent. It's not a bad solution, just a hacky one, and not replacement for a proper ship DM.

No, I actually disagree. I think the damage values of the RB15 (and RB04) is way overdone and that the Harpoon damage values are more correct. But, what is lacking is the damage modelling of the ships, which results in much less damage effect than it should be. This lack of proper damage modeling is the reason why HB cranked up the damage values on the RB15/RB04. So with the current DM of ships, the resulting damage of RB15/RB04 is actually more realistic than that of Harpoons, but the reason for this is the lacking DM of ships, not underpowered Harpoons! So instead of cranking up the damage value of the Harpoons ED should rather implement a proper DM for ships.

I totally agree with you that is also what I would like to see.

and this is what I mean, the implementation of a correct DM for ships is more difficult than simply increasing the value of the weapon and therefore I find the solution as a transition better until the DM of the ships is ready.

because at the moment you just can't use the Harpoon against ships like the Moskva and similar which is sad🤷‍♂️

Yeah, upping the damage values of the Harpoon temporarily until we get a properly DM for ships would be a good workaround.
