deadsmell Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 If i buy downloadable english version direct from ED, do i get unlimited activations or whatever? I have never purchased a game through download, so I dont really know how it works. I know this has been discussed before, but it seemed it was still kind of hazy as to how it would actually work. Im hesitant to buy the download if i can only reinstall a handful of times. I have had lockon:fc since august, and i have probably had to reinstall that like 3 times already. (my own fault but still). Also its kind of weird how it says you are purchasing a license to use the product, and you are in no way actually purchasing the product. ( i know its kind of weird legal talk, but it comes across as inferior to buying the hard copy to me). (keep in mind i am highly ignorant on these matters). I am just looking for concrete answers. I REALLY want to DL it, but the likelyhood of me reformatting or even replacing my hard drive is fairly high. Basically I just want to know if its a viable option for me individualy. I would assume that since i am buying direct from ED i would get unlimited installs, or activations, or whatever you want to call them. ok time for me to shut up and wait for answers. Thank you. Dont let the smell get to ya...............

Acedy Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) Here are a few answers to your questions about activation: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=568704&postcount=3 And regarding your question about licensing: when buying proprietary software you always buy a license to use the software, never the software itself. Just check some EULAs of other software/games you have bought, they will have a similar wording. Frosties Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 i think that you still only have a certain number of activations even with the hard copy since they uses a server to check legality of the copy. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Vincere Est Totum
deadsmell Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) Thanks Esac. However im still not quite sure what that means. so provided you "deactivate" (whatever that means) prior to uninstalling, you can reactivate the same activation upon reinstall. While i dont know how to do all that (because i have never purchased a game through download) I understand the theory. There still seems to be some confusion as to what happens with reformatting and adding new hardware. ?? I dont understand why you would only get 3 activations though. EDIT: Thanks to all the other responses too, i didnt see them when i wrote this. Edited December 10, 2008 by deadsmell Dont let the smell get to ya...............
deadsmell Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 ok can someone help me understand this: An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6 so does that mean i can change my hard drive 3 times? I have no idea what thats trying to tell me. If thats the case, then i should be ok. Dont let the smell get to ya...............
Jester_159th Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 As I understand it, each of those items has a points value. If you change enough to go over the 12 point threshold Black Shark's CP will kick in and ask you to activate it.
Evilducky Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Wait.. so if I change my CPU, then Ill have to activate my game again?
Nate--IRL-- Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Wait.. so if I change my CPU, then Ill have to activate my game again? If you deactivate before the change you keep all your activations. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
