Where do I?

Recommended Posts

Hello again lol,

Where do I upload skins from here to my blackshark or any other planes or helicopter? Started downloading some but have no clue where do place them to.

Thanks again

Hello. You need to place them in here:

"Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/Ka-50"

Well sorry can't find the folder to saved them I don't have any saved folder yet, did not start playing the game yet. I installed the game just a few hours ago

you have to run the game at least once, so it can create its folder.

here you can see an example path:

You are right: the "Liveries" folder is not created by the game. You need to create it.

That would be a good improvement if the game could create this folder. I'll ask devs about it.

So he was right and I am wrong then, but like u can see there is a livery folder, so the path that Rudel gave me it's the correct one? just nee to create one isn't it?

Yep, I was answering to your previous message when I said you were right.

Here's how it works:

  • The "DCS World OpenBeta/Bazar/Liveries" contains default AI units-only liveries. You don't want to mess with this folder.
  • Default liveries for flyable aircraft are stored here: "DCS World OpenBeta/Mods/aircraft/name_of_aircraft/Liveries". You don't want to mess with this folder either.
  • All custom liveries should be added to your "Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries" folder, the one you have to create manually. 👍

And don't forget to create the name of the subfolder matching the game codename of the aircraft, such as:

Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/Ka-50

Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/A-10C

Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/F-16C_50

...

Whenever you're looking for the codename of an aircraft, take a look at your "DCS World OpenBeta/Mods/aircraft" folder.

So I'm all good them, I did not mess with both of the first folders you said about, but I just crated one for the skins that I have downloaded from DCS World. BTW how do I install these new skins of mine when the game is launch?

Thank you

that’s not the correct location, that’s where dcs stores its native liveries … user liveries should go at /users/your user/saved games/etc

Almost there!

This should look like this:

  • Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/Ka-50/folder_of_livery1/ (contains all files from livery 1)
  • Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/Ka-50/folder_of_livery2/ (contains all files from livery 2)
  • Saved Games/DCS.../Liveries/Ka-50/folder_of_livery3/ (contains all files from livery 3)
  • ...

For instance, if you drag-and-drop your "FrenchNayHokum01" folder into your "Ka-50" folder, it will be in the right place.

it is the right place, but you need to follow DCS conventions: inside of Liveries you should create one folder for each vehicle that you will have liveries for. So, you need a "Ka-50" folder for the blackshark’s liveties. Inside this, each livery should go on their own subfolder, see the spitfire example that I posted earlier. The livery folder name is irrelevant, so that’s why I added the country abreviation and the livery author name.

when you download the livery it usually is on the form of a compressed file, like those rar files you have … they have to be uncompressed before DCS will be able to handle them.

once you are seated on the helo, call up the rearm window .. there you will find a list of liveries for you to select. Keep in mind that many liveries are country specific, so your helo has to belong to the proper country before it is able to see the livery.

You don't need to create a subfolder for countries. This is what you want to have:

Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/Liveries/Ka-50/FrenchNavyHokum01

Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/Liveries/Ka-50/Ka-50 C-C 6_6 Outcast

ok got it if lets set I have a f-16 skin, I would have to place the skin in liveries but with a sub folder intitle f-16 and place all of the f-16 in that folder is that it?  Another problem my damn hotas warthog is not working with the KA- 50 was able to lift off finally but couldn't use the joystick or throttle, any reason why? When I look into the configuration of the commands in game, I dont see my TrackIR5 and my wharthog hotas showing nowhere

Thank you

Almost. The name of the folder for the F-16C module is "F-16C_50".

These names match those found in the "/DCS World.../Mods/aircraft/" folder.
