Fulgrim Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Hi gents, I was on an A-G run earlier and ran out of ordinance, so I went for the cannon. I tried to search for the targets with the TGP so I could set up a SPI and steer the plane there, but it seemed that the TGP was locked while on STRF mode. Does anybody know if it can be unlocked to search for targets without going back to other A-G modes? Thanks.

When you go strafe, your SPI will be the impact point of the bullets and the TGP will be slaved on it. You need to go back to other modes. I don't think there is any other possibility. The radar is used for ranging in that case AFAIK. I think NWS / missile step will allow you to toggle between modes in most cases.
Frederf Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 In CCIP, STRF, and CCIP rockets the TGP is forced along pipper LOS in DCS. The idea is that the laser rangefinder provides the best slant range and even will auto lase in unique ways in these modes. It's forced in DCS but I wonder if the real thing has the ability to do otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised yes or no.

I already have snowplow mode to force the TGP into a front facing position, so it would make more sense to allow me to freely designate a target from up above, then dive and laser while seeing the target's location in my hud.
TheBigTatanka Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 The current F-16 can do what you want to do. I have a nice instructional video on how to do it from the operational flight test guys at Nellis. Sadly, it doesn't work in DCS.
