Hi All,

I have seen lots of planes build by none DCS people and some look very good but have seen  people saying these mods no longer work. Can anyone tell me have these been banned from DCS ?

Thanks Alan

ED does not ban user Mods, but DCS is being continuously updated .. user Mod authors also have to keep updating their Mods to match .. and we should understand when sometimes an author is unable to keep doing these updates, ok?

Thanks, is there any thread or website that keeps a track of what is working ? some of the planes look interesting and I would like to try some but I would like to know it works before downloading.

Thanks Alan

Usually, each Mod has a GitHub page or a Discord server where you can contact their user’s community, for example this is the discord for the A-4E-C project:

https://discord.gg/Er5bpPpn

you can search the Forum for other Mods.

Swaps.

There are other factors as well. Sometimes people don't read the designer notes and try and make the mod work when they didn't install it right, or they don't have the required other mods.

As an example when I was newer to dcs I saw the F22 mod. Looks great, right? Free? So I downloaded it, followed the install instructions and then... didn't work. At the time I didn't own FC3 or the F15C. Many mods require other aircraft to function. The mod developer will use existing ED code, or an instrument panel on the mod aircraft. The F22 requires the F15c or the FC3 mod to work because it borrows components.

There are few, very few aircraft mods which are completely standalone and do not require other mods. The 2 I can think of off the top of my head are the excellent community A4 Skyhawk and the UH60L.

Most other mods are going to require you to own one of the aircraft from fc3, sometimes multiple. The Su57 mod uses the Su33, the F22 uses the F15C, and so on.

Here is a list of the best mods that I use, other people will have different opinions. But these mods almost never get broken when a patch drops. (In my experince)

Community A4 EC

UH60L Blackhawk. (Still a little beta, but very good. And it'll only get better.)

Military Aircraft Mod. This mod adds the B2, C5 and a bunch of other military aircraft for THE AI. you can't fly in them, but it really makes missions look better in my opinion.

The Civil Aviation mod. Just what it says. It puts airliners into AI so you can have them do stuff in mission maker.

Simple standalone radio. (SRS) this is one you'll want. It sorta replicates real radios in your aircraft, allowing you to talk to other players on that frequency while in multi-player. It's super cool. The SRS developers drop a patch every time there is an DCS update.

Echo19 sound mod. OMG... you won't know until you use it. But I love it. I use the core sound mod, just because I have yet taken the time to get the other one, which I will, I just to forget to go and do it. This is a free mod, but they will politely as you for a donation.

Anyway, try those mods and enjoy flying in dcs.

Edit: forgot to add, anyone is welcome to come and fly with us at AIN. Link to the AIN discord is on our squadron page here on the forums.

Thanks, Im going to take a few weeks to get used the dog fights again its been some years and I used to use MS combat fight sim so nothing was as real as it gets here. I do want to fly with others it seems like a great community here and I want to join in but I want to feel like I sort of know what im doing before I do that. Im flying the F16 viper and at the moment I struggle to get the plane down in 1 piece and still have not found the airbrake and afterburner on it.

Thanks Alan

I dont know if its just me but I struggle with discord. have it on phone and it will take 2 weeks to delete my account. when I try to log in on PC its says someone already has this email.  I try to confirm by phone so I can speak and again it says this phone belongs to another account. I will see what happens after they delete my old account.

I would add A-29B, T-45 Goshawk, MB-339B/PAN (still flyable), racer planes like Edge 540 and Extra330SR, target items, and a huge collection of ships.

But there are problems: some are nothing more than a shape that can move, some lacks the most basic damage model which makes them indestructible, the worst are those became abandonware -- they are no longer maintained and even the links to download them are dead.

One cannot go around not saying "Thank you" every time these days, can't you?
