666 Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 I've watched all the tutorials that I could find, read the manuals, but I'm still blowing engines. I used the auto start to ensure it wasn't something I was missing, get into the air ok and fly around. About 5 minutes or so later my engines toast. The one thing I have noticed is that I cant achieve the boost that's recommended at lower RPM settings and in fact end up with negative boost at less than 3000-ish rpms. Screen shot from the instant action Normandy mission just after take off.
grafspee Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) Not much to see here, pls upload track. If your boost low push throttle ahead. Make sure that you bind your controllers properly, and make sure that multiple binds are removed. Just did normandy instant action take off, everything shines. 666 Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Thanks mate, will sort something. Do mean load up a vid or the .trk file? If I backed off my throttle to what you did in this vid I'd be in negative boost
grafspee Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 .trk file so i can load it in game and watch what happen. System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
666 Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Theres definitely a difference in the relationship between boost and RPM with yours and mine. Spit..trk Nice take off btw...I've got a bit of work to do apparently
grafspee Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Yep this i would like to investigate, unfortunately i am in job and i will replay it once i got home. High chances that someone else will solve this before me System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
razo+r Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 If you want, for example, set cruise power, you have to adjust both the throttle and RPM lever. Simply almost completely cutting the throttle may give you required RPM, but it will result in almost no power. The RPM lever is there for a reason, use it.
grafspee Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 (edited) On my take off video i set throttle to get 6 boost and i didnt touch throttle anymore, rpm change was done by rpm lever only. In flight throttle controls boost, rpm lever controls rpm. Spitfire has constant speed prop, no matter how much power or how high speed is yours it will keep rpm constant, so only rpm lever can change rpm Edited March 28, 2022 by grafspee System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor
666 Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Ok I was missing something.....and to me its bizarre but to others maybe not so! So I did not know there was a throttle setting AND an RPM controller! I've spent the vast majority of my working life driving <profanity>, of some description or another for what its worth......and the throttle controls RPM on the vast majority of internal combustion powered machines that I'm aware of! And after reading this I see its in MudSpikes manual reflecting that. However it was never ASFAIK/recall mentioned as something that needs to be addressed in any of the tutorials online and if so, easily overlooked. Thank you gents for your valued time and input, much appreciated!
grafspee Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 I drive car everyday and throttle does not control engine rpm in some cases, if i roll down the hill my rpm goes up even when i lift foot off throttle. Same case with plane prop is geared to engine with no clutch. So when you cut throttle in flight both cases rpm wont go down System specs: I7 14700KF, Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite, 64GB DDR4 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 4090,Win 11, 48" OLED LG TV + 42" LG LED monitor

Thank you gents for your valued time and input, much appreciated! I might be not mentioned in tutorials, because it's kind of considered "bread and butter" knowledge amongst piston-powered aircraft enthusiasts. We all went through learning stage, though and so will you.
