What are you supposed to select for an acquisition source when you’re in the pilot seat and you’re using the gun to shoot at ground targets? It doesn’t seem like it gives you the choice of the pilot headset. That seems like the obvious candidate but it’s not presented as such, apparently.

Thanks.

I believe @Jagdgeschwader it right. When the PLT selects the gun it sill always slave to his LOS as that is the only sight the PLT has direct control of.

EDIT: The reason you don't get the PHS option in the back seat is because if you reference the PHS for ACQ then you're just referencing the LOS cross that you see all the time. (I think!!!) The same is true for the CPG seat, where GHS is only selectable as you ACQ when you don't have your HMD set as your sight.

It doesn’t matter at all which acquisition source you select.

The important thing is the SIGHT, in this case for the pilot P-HMD is the only option. (FCR will come later).
Weapons are aimed using SIGHTS. You only need to worry about acquisition sources as a way of receiving cueing or slaving that SIGHT to a location of interest.
The selected ACQ source can never be the same as the selected SIGHT. So P-HMD can never have PHS as Acq source.
When FCR is a possible sight, PLT could then choose PHS as ACQ. But that’s for later, as a way of aiming the radar centreline with your head. Probably little used in comparison with other ways of changing radar centreline, but hey.

This. The selected SIGHT determines where the weapon is aimed (except Hellfires in HI or LO trajectory).

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
