speed-of-heat Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 There is a Tanker always listed on the comms plan, or so far at any rate, can you always "call them if you need them" or are they tasked with other missions unless part of your mission plan? SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

Yep the tankers listed in the comms plan/kneeboard will always be available at any point (on standard tanker menu not F10). They will be on their tanker tracks as outlined in the SPINS. I thought I'd always have them available just in case any players really wanted them/needed them. Bu a few caveats...the mission has been designed without using them so A)they aren't always in a particularly helpful place and you may have to detour a ways, and B) going off course could bring about a few bugs and change the experience so bear this in mid if you do use them.
speed-of-heat Posted April 25, 2022 Author Posted April 25, 2022 understood, i think it was in mission 3, i had an opportunity for some additional tasking but i was skosh on gas, so I was RTB, i didn't the time think about going for extra fuel and then i was rereading the spins as part of mission 4 saw the tankers and went ... huh are they there or are they colour... by the way great missions so far, really loving it. 1 SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

Nahemoth Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Going back to home in the mission 5, I intended to refuel, I approached the tanker (Texaco) using the TACAN and tuned the radio (I heard the waypoint changes), but I couldn't contact the tanker. I supposed that I had to use the original radio menu, but my requests had no answer (the mission ended ejecting). What is the correct procedure for contacting the tanker? Thanks!

There isn't any campaign specific procedure for the tankers, the campaign was developed with no need to AAR, I just left the tankers in case anyone really wanted/needed them at some point. Everything should just be core DCS behavior for tanking - I've just checked the mission and all settings/tasks/freqs for the tanker are as they should be. If the tankers aren't responding I'm not sure why at this point, I'll have to see if I can figure out why. Mission should be more than complete without tanking though, so it'd always encourage that as the best approach as this is how the missions were designed and you'll have a better experience overall.

Yes, I realised that every mission is designed with the required fuel, but sometimes I burn more than the available fuel, so it is nice to have the option of several tankers flying around. I will try again with a different mission, just to try the refuelling. 1
Creasy85 Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I had similar experience with Texaco in Mission 8, wasted a lot of fuel on setting up for AG attack and wanted to refuel, Texaco was the closest, found him by TACAN, set the radio frequency as on the kneeboard 254.6 I think if I remember correctly, double checked, contacted via radio and no response couple of times. I was flying formation with him for a while while trying, no effect. I think the AA refueling is broken and shouldn't even be tried, rather fly home on fumes if need be. Still fun missions, just have to be played as designed and don't deviate and be efficient.
rob10 Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Just a thought: I wonder if the tankers are set to RTB about the time you should be finishing the mission? I had that on one where I got to the tanker, he responded but went to RTB before I could get into pre-contact position. Maybe the time on station needs to be extended?
ChillNG Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I can check, I didn't set any rtb behaviour but worth a look.
