Judging from the training videos, ATG missiles seem to have a range of about 8.1km, however whenever I am using them, I do not get the "C" fire symbol from anything more than 2-3 km away, even less if it's an A2A target, where enemy Mi-24's can spam their missiles at me from over 5km away.

Anyone know what this is about? Shkval is set to A2A mode in the right situations, the right pylons are selected, weapon master arm is on, everything is good to go, but I can just never fire the missile. It is always stuck on "LA" on my HUD and never moves on from there.

It's getting pretty darned frustrating.

Is your laser on standby? Press Shift-O i think ( mine is mapped to the joystick )

Then lase again ( Enter ).

At low altitude you should be able to engage at about 7km. Make sure you are atleast 30m AGL though to ensure the missile does not hit the ground short of the target.

You also need to make sure that the Shkval reticule intersects/overlays the reticule of the targeted object. Sounds obvious, but I didn't get that at first.

You appear to be able to launch missiles, so you probably already know this, but it caught me out for a while: you must put the missile 'pipper' over the target so that you're pretty much pointing right at it. Seems a little crude in comparison to most modern missile systems.

Also you must hold the 'release weapon' button down for a second, but you say you aren't getting the 'C' symbol so that's not the problem but I thought I'd mention it.

Cheers,

The ATGM's can be tricky I my self had a few issues before I got it down

you want to first make sure your laser is on (up position)

you want to then uncage the schval and lock up your target(you want a TA symbol not the TT)

this will give you the range and you must be with in range to get hit the target and its one of the peramiters for the shoot que

master arm on and select the pylons (green lights above the outer set normally here the missles are)

Personaly i make sure the auto gun is selected and should be by default and use the auto turn to target. after this the tricky bit is making sure the pippers are overlaped to get the 'C' after that press what ever button you have it mapped to to fire(note most times is not the trigger on the stick) you will have to hold it for a second and it should fire

If all else fails, (ie the target is over 8KM's or the Shkval won't lock up due to poor light conditions) , you can flick the weapons into Manual mode (switch below the TV display, left side) , which will give manual Launch control © .. of course, be aware that you may be firing out of the weapons paremeters, so it may not hit! .. try to be stationary so you can keep the laser pointing at the target manually!

Hi,

You need to hold the fire button to fire. Ensure also that the cannon is NOT selected! If the trigger is flipped up on thge virtual cyclic, then cannon is selected. To de-select, press C, then press Y or U to select the outer or inner hardpoints (if not already selected).

In manual mode for the Vikhr I ensure the target is within the HUD - this generally results in the Vikhr acquiring the laser for tracking. Note that this gets quite unreliable at close range however as it needs more time to stabalize down the beam.

Best regards,

Tango.

Note that when firing an anti-tank guided missile like the Vikhr, you will need to hold down the weapon trigger for up to a full second

When in manual mode, computed launch authorization, automated gate tracking size, and vertical compensation Vikhr launcher to target are absent. You should only use the manual mode when the automatic mode is inoperative.

The other big one is being in the correct range. If you are below min range or over max range, you will need get a 'C', regardless if everything has been done properly

I find that some times the lock box is to big and I have to resize it by hitting the -

Key. If the box is to big I never get the c sign and I can not fire.

only thing that has worked for me is changing fire control to manual.

I still don't get the "C" launch authorization a good 60% of the time from beyond 4 km

Must be something you're doing wrong. There's a post on SimHQ that broke down how to fire off an ATG missile with pics. Studied it word for word and after 30 minutes I was taking down targets 6km+ with about a 90% success rate.
