Hello gents,

I have been wondering how a typical VR setup in DCS looks like. In particular how can one use the controls (e.g. keyboard) while using VR goggles ? I have seen VR goggle which include some sort of controllers buth these cannot be sufficiant for DCS controls. Sorry to bother but I am newbie on this field.  My rig has a Ryzen 7 + Nvidida 3070 etc. so from a HW perspective that should be sufficient (2560 x 1440, ~ 95 FPS).

Cheers,

Hans

Various different methods, but essential minimise all keyboard use. Most don't like hand controllers and use the mouse, it works quite well. Also a good hotas with extra switches helps and then there are also button boxes which provide extra places to go for essential bindings. I do have a keyboard I use, but only for esc and F keys when in game. I have bits of duct tape on the F1, F6 and F10 key to help, plus my keyboard has them in groups of 4. As for using key combos... not really feasible but then I could never remember them anyway.

With clickable cockpits you can do most stuff by mapping the mouse controls to HOTAS buttons if you wish.

I have Esc and the F keys mapped to my HOTAS and button box

I don't use a keyboard or mouse at all once the mission has started.

My personal preference is to use button boxes for the main functions. For example the warbirds I have pretty much everything I would use mapped to buttons, switches and rotaries - it is amazing how quickly you get used to where they are even though you can't see them.

For interfacing with MFDs I find it easier to look and push the button on my stick mapped to mouse button.

You don't need a lot of buttons though as using the mouse buttons on the HOTAS and looking around covers most things, just that in combat sometimes you don't want to be looking at the control you are operating and prefer to do it by feel.

VoiceAttack (with or without Vaicom Pro) can be used to replace keyboard strokes with spoken commands . Very helpful for VR . For example , I simply say "Request re-arm" and the arming window pops up .
