jawzzy Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 (edited) Hello all and Merry Christmas.:drunk: I posted this in General Discution but I see a lot more skins discutions in here. Is there a way to see the skins for the heli in the mission builder or anywhere in the game before you start the mission?:dontgetit: I know in LOCK ON you see the skin in the arming menu. How about Black Shark? Can i see the skin anywhere before i actuallty start the game? If i want to make a mission without externals, do i have to make the mission, change a random skin (since i don't know yet how they look), start the mission with externals on, and keep trying until i find the skin i want? Then go back and change the setings? :dontgetit: Other questions i couldn't find the answer yet. Is there a naming convention for new skins? I mean, if i make a new skin do i have to make every bmp in a certain way for the game to recognize it? Another one. How many skins can the Ka-50 take? Thx for your time. arthuro12 Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Oh i totally want this.. so annoying when you gonna go and load to check the skin and find out that its the wrong one.. :/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
jawzzy Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 I just don't understand this...Why was that good option in LOMAC removed? Is already ridiculously hard to get a new skin in the game. Once in the game you don't even have a chance to see what skin you actually put on the plane before you fly. When you make a skin you have to do a lot of small little changes here and there and the ability to check the skin outside of a mission saved a huge load of work. Having to work more to get the skin in the game then actually making the skin doesn't help. BTW. Is there an option to change the skin in an online game? jawzzy Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 (edited) The 3D viewer was originally included in the new ME, but had to be removed later due to technical problems. Thanks for the answer. Now. Are they going to fix it and release it again in a patch at some point or just forget about it.? As it is, I find the game extremely bad when it comes to skins integration. You need one program to make the actual skin and then five, six extra programs and a lot of file editing just to get it in the game. Really bad in this respect. Belphe Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think DCS:BS is made of two separate "engines"... The menu is the first and it doesn't support 3D graphics and the game itself is the second and only there a render is possible. So, no way we will see textured 3D object in the menus unless they are heavily modified... :/ Never say never, Baby! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Jace11 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 OpenGL??? For what is at the moment a purely 2D interface...? Waste of resources.... Maybe they wanted to add it, but the seperate nature of the Menu / Game exe's and the way starforce stops the 3D part of the game means we will never get this... We will probably never see a satellite mode for viewing the map either, so we'll never be able to place units exactly as we want them. Lock On mission editor is more advanced and user friendly. The triggers are not that sophisticated really (not like those in Armed Assault etc) but they do add something.
crazyeddie Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I'm with you Jace11, it aint going to happen in DCS. There is a post somewhere about it, ED said it was still an option but very low down their list of things to do, that means never to me. I think people will soon tire of the novelty of BS and LFC will remain the better game, shame because I think it has so much potential. The dedicated Helo Drivers will stick with it, it is good at what it does, but anyone wanting to be develop the game will find the Mission Editor too restrictive. I'll play both but my fixed wing preference is taking me back to LFC.
