Open Falcon 4.7 Released!

Hey, I just thought of another question, one that I've always wondered about.

Do these community-made Falcon overhauls have documentation provided? I understand that the 4.7 file is an upgrade for the full 4.5 version. If I install 4.5 over Falcon 4.0, is there a full manual included in the finished install? Like the binder one, a manual that covers everything from scratch, not just updates on changes in the version.

Once you installed OF you will have plenty to read:

-BMS-34, 112 pages, Talk about weapons systems and avionics.

-Euro Fighter Typhoon package manual, 31 pages, all the info you want about the package.

-HFFM manual, 130 pages, I have not read the whole thing but talk about all the work they put on FM etc.

-Navigation charts for Korea, with Radio tower frequencies(UHF and VHF), ILS frequencies, TACAN channels, etc.

-3 power point on Mig-29/23/21 FM and info about the aircraft, again I have not seen the whole product just brows through it.

-A "MULTI-COMMAND HANDBOOK 11-F16" I am not sure if this is a actual USAF book, but it is 305 pages long, I have only read few pages. Talks about general flying, formation flying and many other things.

- The all important "noob" guide, many info.

This is just a few, there are more manuals in the Doc folder, and even more stuff to download from there web site. If you wanted manuals, RT, you got them bud :D

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the Falcon doubter will continue to doubt.

I couldn't get the damn thing to run. :( It would CTD whenever any 3D graphics would be rendered, meaning it would crash even at the graphics preview. The fact that it has so many patches and tweaks tells me that I could spend hours just trying to figure out what exactly my system doesn't like about it. No thanks, unfortunately I'm not that interested to spend too much time on it.

Sorry to hear that. I would tell you to check their forums but, after playing Falcon for 10 years I know that it can be a pain to get it to work. Thanks God I have not had any problems in a while. You know it might be some simple set up problems, did you check the config editor? Sorry, old habit, I just hear a Falcon problem and start trouble shooting automatically. Any way, you could probably find most of those documents in the many Falcon web sites out there. Some are a interesting read. Sorry that OF did not work... I got like a million question to troubleshoot, I got to go before my head explodes

P.S.

U use Vista don't you?... never mind, I still trying to fix it, haaa, I can stop myself.

It's a real pity you can't get it going RT; as for me, I'm having a blast with the depth of immersive detail in this sim. Most of my time is still designing and flying self learning/teaching sorties to get a grip of the avionics & weapons suite.

I also found the install to be incredibly easy on XP ... F4, HiTiles (optional payware), OF 4.5 then OF 4.7. Runs smoothly as a babies bum .. heheh.

Hey, I love Lock On too, but for me it feels more of a vignette of an experience (with a severly cobbled avionics/wpns suite) ... a slice from an overall reality, whereas with OF 4.7 I feel like I'm getting near the whole experience. I expect that once the DCS jet modules come out, I'll have that experience in spades within DCS, but until that time arrives, I'll have to get my fast jet fix through OF 4.7!

Best of luck friend, catch you around the traps.

Cheers!

P.S. ... and on the plus side, if DCS ever model a Viper, I'll be well prepared! :D

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!

No problem, I totally understand your drive to solve a problem. I'm the same way. Drove my mother crazy growing up, now it drives my wife crazy. :D

No harm foul on OF not working. I had my doubts. I kinda decided to give it a try on a whim.

LOL .. me too! My wife complains that she can't ever just vent ... she just wants me to 'listen'; not to solve her problem :D.

Cheers!

Install order:

* Falcon 4 Microspose

* HiTiles (not the one for Allied Forces)

* Open Falcon 4.5 Full

* Patch 4.7

then go config editor and set your game up

then understand the Hotas concept of a F-16

(dont create own wild settings)

then forget the first impressions and "fast food" thinking and digg deeper.

then fall in love...and have fun.... :pilotfly:

(personally i fly OF here and then...but my priority -even more fuggly- is AF, cuz i like 1v1 meetings via HL, but

for internal squad events or flying with friends, OF should be - no, is - a nice entertainer)

All is not totally lost. I managed to get Red Viper installed successfully. Took flight around, landed successfully on the first try even after not playing for so much time. I really wanted to try OF, but oh well. At least I don't have to put up with the 3D cockpit I can't click and the bad FM. I might buy some hitiles. Anyone know of some good free ones that are compatible with Red Viper? It looked like there were some nice freeware ones that came with OF when I installed it.

Twaelti's Tiles for F4 are compatible with FF4, and come for about $10 from his website. There are no free-ones that come for FF4, IIRC.

All planes are flying compromises in one way or another; and everyone has their own cherished assumptions and opinions about which plane is the best ... in my case absolutely *nothing* comes even close to a Tornado GRx in terms of beauty and functionality ... but being a good air force guy (virtual of course ;)) I fly what I'm given or what I can get ... and the F-16 (in Open Falcon 4.7) does a pretty good job providing similar mission types/roles with the same degree of believability and intensity.

Cheers!

Just FYI, FF5 includes an entire separate project on the Tornadoes.

Aye, ASG thnx for the heads-up man ... but essentially they're F-16's re-mod-ed right? I want a real simulated Tornado! :(

I fly the OF variety of F4 and occasionally go for a spin in the other jets, but it's just not quite the same; although the Mirage2K is approaching "very good".

An up-graded version of DI's would be fantastic ... just got to get DCS to see the light. Judging from some of the screen shots, there's already a Tornado model in DCS.

Cheers!

Teapot - i think you are correct in your assessment. We want a new up-to-date version from DI. And i would love if we could see it in DCS! :)

Nope. They are not the re-modded F-16s. ;) In-fact for FF5, the Tornado project includes completely new 2D and 3D pits, and entirely new aircraft model and database.

There is are some screens of the Tornado pits as well in the FF5 preview threads if you want to take a look.

Sounds interesting m8.

Does it model the radar suite, symbology and avionics suite of the Tornado?

How...?

People have been flying other planes in Falcon 4 for quite some time and the limitation is always the same: you're stuck with the F-16 MFDs. You can move them around and resize them, but you still have the F-16's symbology.
