FalcoGer Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 George has some serious wobble left and right that a human gunner wouldn't have. I have had issues with george being able to hit a rapier site from around 7000m, and I shot 10 missiles, every one of them landing in the sand. I was shooting from a hover at around 50m using the automation with some slight wind (7m/s). Even in a mission with 0 wind and a perfect, stable hover, george can't hit a rapier tracker from 6500m. While not easy, I can manage to do the feat in less than 10 shots and so should george. Track attached. george_cant_hit_rapier_tracker_6500m.trk
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted July 19, 2022 ED Team Posted July 19, 2022 Hi, I can not reproduce this. George was hitting for me. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? FalcoGer Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) He was always going over for me. Here is the actual flight where this happened. He shot 10 missiles, and got 1 hit. Sorry for my french in the video, it was just really frustrating overall between a generally bad day, some ridiculous framerates for no reason at all, bugs, server crashes and my own ineptitude at times. Floyd1212 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I think you would improve your chances if you engaged that target from a higher altitude. I realize that wasn't exactly the best option here, but just saying. That shallow angle on a target 8km away can easily drift to lase something well beyond the target. And yes, if a human were in the CPG seat, he would switch to DTV camera, zoom all the way in, use LMC and probably not have the same problem. George isn't quite there yet.
FalcoGer Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) With 2 rapier sites, at least 1 tunguska and a sa 15s around, I couldn't exactly hover at 200m with no cover. I was flying stable and I would've hit those targets myself. Edited July 19, 2022 by FalcoGer
ED Team Raptor9 Posted July 19, 2022 ED Team Posted July 19, 2022 The simulation "game-isms" aside, you are essentially trying to hit a fence post on the horizon at almost 8 km away. I think the expectations of what would or should be possible in this case are unrealistic. And frankly, optical cameras like the A-10 or F-16's TGP in CCD mode and the TADS DTV are actually over-powered in DCS compared to real-life because atmospheric distortion isn't simulated. Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man. DCS Rotor-Head
Floyd1212 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 This might be a good application for buddy-lasing from above, or from a JTAC drone.
FalcoGer Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 I could still hit the ground close enough nearby to destroy the equipment. You don't need to hit the fencepost if you can hit anywhere in a 20m radius around it and still be confident that the equipment is trashed. I understand that the laser spot is wide, especially at a shallow angle, but george is way more unstable than I can be. Also what do you think would happen to a predator drone over an SA15 site?
Floyd1212 Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) 37 minutes ago, FalcoGer said: Also what do you think would happen to a predator drone over an SA15 site? In DCS, or IRL? In the missions I play with JTAC overhead, the SAMs ignore it. Not sure if that is standard behavior for Predator (Reaper?) drones in DCS in general, or if that is coded into the mission for them to ignore the drones to allow that "game-enhancing" assist when needed.
