Guys, I just installed the dedicated server on an older pc (3.8MHz, 16Gb), and man what a game changer! The performance is so much better. Even those micro stutters that I've been "enjoying" for a while and blamed SteamVR for are gone. Now I can actually play those huge Liberation campaigns with no problem. It is very easy to install and configure. Highly recommend.

I just have both PC's in the home wired network. I mean you buy an ethernet cable and connect them ). Easy. Then once you have a dedicated server installed and started on one of your PC's it appears in a list of multiplayer servers. That is it. On the server side - there is a very simple user interface that allows you to add missions and run them.

Well, on a local network it is very easy but if you want to have others join you, it is a little bit more complicated.  Check out this guide also:

Some ISP block traffic unless you establish rules to allow specific ports to be open. The above guide explains how to do this.

Another usefull trick is ti install teamviewer and establish a connection with your server from your gaming PC.  This way you can control the server from your gaming  PC without having to jump in another chair or location.  Very usefull if you want to pause the mission for example.

That is right. Me and my buddy used to fly together using my PC as a server. It involves a port forwarding and few other things but not overly complex. The purpose of this post is to let single player VR users know that the dedicated server is a great way to save some frame rate. And we all know that every nano second in VR counts )

Anyone tried running it in a virtual machine ?

Why add the extra layer of virtualization? Will probably work, but not improve performance most likely.
