I also know the problem and in my opinion it is mainly because the proximity fuze is too small, with a/a weapons that have a larger radius is much more difficult or impossible.

I do not think that 7 meters is a correct value for the aim120

That's not a proximity fuse issue. There was some issue with Kalman filter. Already fixed internally.

That may be, but even with a correct proximity fuse, it would not have been possible in his tracks, at least.

FYI Proxy fuze should be set on the Stores Page with the Size Selector (and RCS would control at what range the AMRAAM will go active) and wouldn't be a constant

I tried good'ol Lockon era barrel roll against an Amraam at mid altitudes and out of 3 times, I succeeded once. I have no idea why the missile wasn't able to pull more lead before it missed. Perhaps lost lock. It was pointing toward the ground but if the clutter was the factor, that would just be silly... I don't think that was the reason:

Slight correction... After watching the track again, I simply managed to 'corkscrew' the missile out of energy, in the last engagement. The launch was made at R_max so the outcome shouldn't be surprising.  I'll try to run through different setups when I have time.  For now, I'm assuming the barrel rolls are not as effective as they were long time ago. Perhaps my skillz got rusty. :glare:

A barrel roll is not always necessary, a curve is also sufficient.

I don't think the Kalman filter will make much difference either, maybe a small improvement, but I think the main problem will remain, but I'm happy to be surprised.
