I have a G2 headset, & in 2020 it's easy to go in & out of VR with just a key stroke., I guess because it's mainly WMR.  With DCS I can't find a way to do that, even after searching here for answers.   Win + Y doesn't do anything, so something in steam VR settings ?

There is no easy in game mechanism to swap from VR to 2D in DCS unlike Flight Sim 2020 which has a single command to switch modes, there are command line options that allow you to do so, but thats a pain, i use Skatezilla's awesome GUI app to launch DCS in which ever mode i need:

but its not really to do with WMR/or SteamVR its how the app is written

Thanks, think I'll just deal with it, & hope that may change some day. 😑

If you are using the g2 I would really recommend looking at opencomposite  as well, it removes the need for steamvr

I think I have the same issue that you’re talking about. I came from Valve Index and Steam VR. I remember being able to pause mid flight and take an important business call ( or blast a dook or grab a beer) and come back, put my headset on and hit return to game in Steam home and pick up right where I left off. Now with G2V2 and OpenComposite, I hit pause, come back, and the headset is asleep. The game is still running fine in the mirror on the desktop, there’s just no way, that I can find, to get myself back into the virtual world. I have to give up the last 45 minutes I spent getting my 109 off the ground, caught up to the zig-zagging formation, and flying across the channel, just to start over from scratch after killing the perfectly running DCS session. I know I can set my headset to not go to sleep or stay awake longer, but there should be another way.

Instead of waiting the change may come some day you can make your life easy and get your frustration about switching out of the way:

For example, you can have 2 DCS start icons, one for 2D and one for VR with this in the command line:

"Drive:\Your DCS location\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR

*You need a space and two dashes.

or

Use the app speed-of-heat proposed, is a super app to get DCS started in any mode you want without all the hassle you encounter.

You have exactly those two buttons in Skatezilla's application: VR on, or VR off (for launch)

What about if we’ve already started VR and are in the game, mid-mission, and have stepped away and want to get back to where we were. Paused VR session, go away and come back to the session still running, but headset asleep? I can find no other way than shut down DCS, restart the mission from scratch, losing all progress. The VR session is still running on the monitor window. Moving the headset moves around the view in the window, but all I can get in the headset is the WMR home. I just need to trigger the shattered blue glass effect so I’m back into the headset view. Very thing is still running fine, I just can’t get myself and the headset back in to the virtual world that’s actively running. I’m talking single player campaign missions.
