theox Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Hey guys, got a Q and some discussion to follow. I've gotten the Black Shark to Loop with no issue. Its the "perfect" barrel roll that continues to elude me. Heres my scenario: Speed: 225 km/h ALT: 800m I roll the aircraft to the left (that much right cyclic input would cause blade collision at speed, right?) I complete the roll with one of two outcomes: 1) Roll completed with overspeed warnings and extremely fast descent with loss of some input control. Loss of perhaps 700m of altitude during roll. Aircraft is recovered. 2) Same as above, but blade collision occurs due to excessive control input to arrest descent. Is there any way to: a) complete the roll without such a loss of altitude? (please post procedure and a track if able) b) complete the roll at a slower speed to avoid overspeed and perhaps alt loss. Thanks and discuss.

CAT_101st Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 When I am at a hover attacking targets above 300m. I will to avoid in comming sams drop my colitive role to the right untill inverted pull back on stick slow and bring up the colitive %10 to recover about 50m above the ground. this puts me flying away from threats and up to speed fast. Poping flairs during the role looks cool too. :smilewink: Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. CAT_101st Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Think I can put up a quick video of that. :D Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. ThunderChief Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I think you need (a bit) more collective to have more control on the roll axis. You might try to disable the roll axis autopilot. I had the impression that it would be a faster roll then, but I can't say for sure.
Slayer Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 A little less forward speed might help. I've tried this too....even from a hover :) What I want to know is how the pilot in the Kamov video is able to spin so easily with the AP chanels on doing all his manovers....he hits the trim very few times...maybee only 3 or 4 the whole time. kaiserb_uk Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 A 'barrel' roll should involve a pitch up before the roll manoeuvre, this might reduce the altitude loss slightly. That said, heli's can't fly upside down for a reason! Try pitching up to about 20deg before rolling.
Shepski Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Watch the demo tracks in replay section to see a good example of the aerobatic capabilities of the Ka-50. Split-S, Immelman, loops, and rolls are all very possible.
Rhino4 Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I've seen some people on youtube just doing a roll. Not a barrel roll, but a roll as they would in a fighter. Looks very wonky and uncoordinated.
