The thing is that i play mostly 1v1's on dogfight servers or host simple 1 vs 1 missions with a friend. So no heavy Ai missions with dozens of units. I play only on 4K (due to monitor). Currently, mostly i'm on the 40 - 50's frames, but i see drops to 30's or lower sometimes to 20's, which gets it on my nerves. Could a most powerful gpu (like the upcoming 4070 / 4080 + my current 4790K) solves this you think? Or a new build is mandatory? And in that case would you suggest a 5800x3d, which is more cheap than a ddr5 build? And about the future proof factor, wouldn't this cpu be enough for playing in the next few years, considering the fact that i play only at 4K and can anyway upgrade later the gpu? Intel i7 4790K to AMD Ryzen 5800X3D (or the more affordable Intel i5 12600KF) will be a really huge jump in performance, that's for sure (very worth it!). BTW, what DDR4 memory are you using? (may be reused depending on what it is) But then, and as already said, you'll still be limited by the RTX3060Ti in 4K resolution. I'm still not convinced by the new RTX4000 GPUs of Nvidia. Once propper unbiased reviews are out, we'll know if they're worth such a high price (+ new ATX3.0 PSU!). I'd wait for initial reviews once the new AMD RX7000 series GPUs are out (next month?), see if they're good (and more affordable) then decide. Notice that the used market is already presenting interesting prices for the RTX3090 24GB. Yes, a used GPU for not-so-affordable prices may sound like a bummer, but that one will remain as outstanding GPU, for a long long while. To resume, the best move is to get new CPU + motherboard + GPU. Depending on what PSU and DDR4 memory you're using, you may be able to re-use those with the new upgraded parts. Wether you should invest first in CPU or GPU... perhaps the CPU, but be aware that just one thing upgraded will still see a bottleneck from the other that hasn't been upgraded. Your test at some mission start will not show you much difference indeed. As I said already the CPU power in DCS is mostly needed for complex missions (AI), MP and high object count scenes. Hello, I finally had the chance to play a few hours single and multiplayer. I have to say I am truly impressed. I always had the fps capped at 60 due to my 4k adaptive sync monitor maxing out at 60hz and Track Ir being smoothest at 60hz. With the same GPU I now have extreme stable frame rates. I remember at busy farps when i.e. a Apache would spawn my fps would dipp below the min adaptive sync fps (52 fps in my case)... now its all gone. When running benchmarks the max fps or even sometimes average dont change significant through the upgrade. But the the minimum fps (through the the cpu bottleneck apperantly) see a dramatic improvment. What I like about the 5800x3d is the Powerdraw, main reason why I decided against the switch to a new platform.
