Razor18 Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Hi Gents, I have a TM WH, that's why asked here, but question refers to any controller. Which files or folders should I save if I want to have back the same input settings after a Win/DCS reinstall? Anything else worth saving a backup of before a DCS reinstall? Thanks for feedback !
Hiob Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) You can either copy the whole c:\users\your_user\savegames\DCS.... folder-tree for all settings (and perhaps mods), including any problems you may have introduced in your settings. Or you can copy selected subfolders like "Input". The names are pretty self explanatory. Edit: Note, that when you reinstall Windows, your Input-Device may have become a new ID and your conrols settings won't apply. You then need to find out the new IDs (rename your backup and let DCS rebuild a new savegames/DCS folder) and correct them in the input files of your backup. A Windows reinstall is different from a DCS reinstall. For a DCS reinstall you need no backup, since the installer won't touch your input configuration. In fact, you don't even need to do a re-install, as a DCS_Updater Repair does exactly the same thing minus the download of files you already have. Now, if you are reinstalling Windows, then you could use the DCS "Save Profile As" button on the Controls screen to create controls backups, but it is really laborious as it saves just the selected column, so you need to use it once for each controller, on my case I need as a minimum the Keyboard, the Hotas end the Rudder Pedals, and that's only thanks to the fact that I don't usually touch the TrackIR nor Mouse axes. Can you imagine having to do this for every aircraft when you have over a dozen of them? For myself I prefer to just backup the entire /Saved Games/DCS/Config/Input/ folder and after my new windows is installed, I do a batch rename for all the files (as they have the USB ID as part of the name, and that ID will be different on a new windows). 4 hours ago, Razor18 said: Anything else worth saving a backup of before a DCS reinstall? I would save the whole /Saved Games/DCS/ folder, as it contains a lot of useful stuff, for example it has your current graphics configuration, your Logbooks, the current status of advance for the Campaigns that you have flown. It also contains any screenshots and tracks that you may have saved, It usually contains your custom missions and any custom livery that you may have downloaded. Marc one Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Hi, I have had a complete desktop HDD crash!!! I have been able to find the folder Eagle Dynamics with all the subfolders and files for the DCS World 2.7 and the DCS World 2.7 Beta. I do not have the DCS WORLD and DCS World Beta executable files to start up the DCS nor do I have the Repair DCS exe. Files. What can I do to solve the problem and be able to use the DCS World. I have tried to gain the download again on the website but there is always a error sign ‘Updater Timeout was reached’ Can someone help me out with this problem? Thanks in advance, Marc
