OK ruprecht, as you can see, the smaller monitor on the left shows part of the loading screen in the lower right,

This is normal, nothing you can do about it. Any part of the screen not erased by a 3d renderview will still show the loading screen.

the Shkval on the upper right is blank even though it is active,

Is it working in the virtual cockpit on the main display? I assume so. Hmm. In my config it is written "Shkval" not "SHKVAL". Try that, maybe it has no knowledge of what to render in that space because of the case you're using.

theres also a piece of the menu in the bottom right corner ( the one you select to quit or recover, that is always there even while the game is not paused

See first quote, not erased by a 3d view

and the resolution on the main monitor is no where near 2560x1600,

Just curious, how do you determine this? Just from the fuzzy look?

matter of fact, I cant even click on any of the buttons in the cockpit, the mouse cursor moves over the buttons, but can not press or turn any. I have full screen unchecked as well. I have no problems when i do not run fantom or try multi screen. All is well single screen @ 2560 x 1600

Can I confirm that you've dispensed with the phantom monitor fix exe for now? Get it working without that first.

Also, I'd suggest reverting to the original default options.lua and redoing your numbers, being painstakingly careful with commas, spaces, quotes and case. It's possible you've bumped a key somewhere which is causing the config to read incorrectly.

Also can I confirm that you're not changing anything ingame in the display settings after you change the config files?

Also can you confirm that you have never edited any of the config files with notepad/wordpad, but you've always used a UTF-8 aware editor such as Textpad or Notepad++?

@loslobas: here are your numbers, all I did was find the appropriate sheet in the spreadsheet and fill them in.

Am I missing something?

I am still just getting the normal view on the main monitor. I've checked my figures - are they back to front? :helpsmilie:

My setup is simple, two 1680 x 1050 monitors using an Nvidia Geforce GTX 280.

Primary display (0.0) numbered as '2' in display settings - Secondary display (1680,0) numbered as '1', extend desktop ticked.

My primary is on the left and my secondary is on the right.

Running Vista 32.

I've attached copies of the options and monitor files, pasted into notebook for viewing but they were edited originally using open office.

It's probably easy to you guys - if you could possibly help it would be most appreciated - thanks for taking the time. :)

Are the files named .lua or .txt on your system? they should be .lua. Sorry, I have to ask, you'd be amazed...

Also check the height on your Shkval in your monitorsetup; it should be 525, not 525/2.

Looking further...

Can you post the paths to where the two files are being stored?

And confirm you're not touching the graphics settings ingame after customising the lua files?

And please advise do you ever see anything on the secondary screen once you start DCS, or does it show the menus but not the game, or something else?

Also can you go into the graphics options setup screen (where you would normally change the resolution etc) and screenshot that for us? Don't change anything, just screenshot what comes up by default.

Hi - I have hopefully fulfilled your info request.

Monitor files located here - C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Config\MonitorSetup

Option file located here - C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts

After I used these files nothing was changed in-game on the graphics settings. My secondary monitor continues to display my desktop background - See attached screenshot.

Note in the screenshot I have selected the original default monitor as I have returned to original settings.

OK the final screenshot says to me that it's either not finding your options.lua, or there's a problem with that file, or it's not finding your My_Monitorsetup_File.lua file.

That final screen should be pre-set (by your options.lua) on load to reflect the settings you've chosen.

So...

Double check filenames, paths and case. Search for any duplicates of those files that might be getting picked up instead.

Another thing to check is the Vista filenames by default "hide known file extensions" so it's possible that your options.lua is actually called options.lua.txt but stupid Vista decided not to show you that. You can see the actual filename by rightclicking for properties, and you can turn off the "hide known file extensions" - google will help there.

It's 1am here, will check again in the morning. Good luck.

I think it suddenly sparked something in the grey matter, when I opened up the copied version of options.lua in notepad ++ it was all garbled. Originally I used Open Office to edit the lua files  not knowing at the time what effect this had.

Anyhow I copied the original files again and edited via notepad ++. I could see that my settings were different ie. current.

Well fired it up and here is the result -

“Is it working in the virtual cockpit on the main display? I assume so. Hmm. In my config it is written "Shkval" not "SHKVAL". Try that, maybe it has no knowledge of what to render in that space because of the case you're using.”

Yes, the Shkval is working in the virtual cockpit, I will try this change"Shkval" not "SHKVAL".

and the resolution on the main monitor is no where near 2560x1600,

“Just curious, how do you determine this? Just from the fuzzy look?”

Yes, most definatley! When I run single monitor, 1 camera, which is what I have been doing before trying Multi. 2600 x 1600 is so crisp and sharp compared to what I see in Multi.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

matter of fact, I cant even click on any of the buttons in the cockpit, the mouse cursor moves over the buttons, but can not press or turn any. I have full screen unchecked as well. I have no problems when i do not run fantom or try multi screen. All is well single screen @ 2560 x 1600

“Can I confirm that you've dispensed with the phantom monitor fix exe for now? Get it working without that first.”

I am still running the phantom monitor fix. I have tried this configuration with and without the Phantom.exe running, there is a difference, but both are not good. And to add to this, when you say “Get it working without that first.” Does that mean I have to recalculate all the numbers again not to take into effect the “Phantom Monitor” resolution?

________________________________________________________________________________________________

“Also, I'd suggest reverting to the original default options.lua and redoing your numbers, being painstakingly careful with commas, spaces, quotes and case. It's possible you've bumped a key somewhere which is causing the config to read incorrectly.”

I will do so, I have one outstanding question on this matter which I have not resolved. Since I am using Vista, there are actually (2) locations the options.lua file exists:

C:\Users\Don\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts

AND

C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\options.lua

I thought I read somewhere that it’s the one in the “VirtualStore” that is the one that had to be edited?????

______________________________________________________________________________________________

“Also can I confirm that you're not changing anything ingame in the display settings after you change the config files?”

No changes being made. I will mention that my desktop resolution on my main monitor is set at 1152 x 864, but I have Black Shark resolution on the main monitor set at 2560 x 1600 (mentioned that just in case it has any impact?)

______________________________________________________________________________________________

“Also can you confirm that you have never edited any of the config files with notepad/wordpad, but you've always used a UTF-8 aware editor such as Textpad or Notepad++?”

All editing is done using Notepad ++

UPDATE:

The Shkval now functions on the secondary monitor after I changed the case from "SHKVAL to Shkval” (case sensitive apparently)

I started out with a fresh options.lua file from the directory of :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\options.lua

And a fresh file for multi monitor from the directory of:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Config\MonitorSetup\MyCamera+ABRIS+Shkval.lua

I copied these files to my desktop, edited them very carefully with Notepad++, I even went thru all the numbers again (found no mistakes)

I then took these edited files and replaced the ones in the original locations noted above.

I still have problems with the main monitor, and while scratching my head, I came across this interesting issue. As I noted before, the main cockpit resolution is defiantly not running crisp and clear for 2560x1600, and as I mentioned before, the cockpit buttons would not function. What I actually found out about the cockpit buttons is, if I put the mouse curser over say the master alarm reset button, there is no button title that comes up, nor can I click on it. However, if I slide the mouse button directly to the right, without deviating height wise, the master alarm reset button title box pops up, and I can click the mouse button to make it function, even though the mouse curser is not on it at all, but actually about 5 or 6 inches to the right.

By the way, this is still with Phantom Fix.exe running

I think once this is resolved, my problems will be resolved. Please advise, thanks

Im reading like a mad man here, I questioned this before also, but I cant seem to get an answer,,, when I installed the "phantom monitor fix" I was not clear as to what directory to install it? I wound up trying its default, then I directed it to install in the programs(x86) directory,,, no change,,now I stumbled accross this that says it has to be installed in the

I'm sorry Fakum, I have no experience with the phantom monitor fix. Unless you get the same issues without it running, You'll have to take it up with the author of the tool.

To answer your earlier question, my understanding is that if you use the phantom monitor fix, you do not need to configure a phantom. It seems to me that you're using phantom-ready numbers, with the fix, so everything is displaced by the width of your phantom?

I'd read the thread about the phantom fix and fix your numbers so that there is no allowance for a phantom at all. Or, run it with your existing numbers but without the phantom fix as I've been suggesting. Either way should work if the numbers are right.

OH WOW! Ok ,,, well,,, my bad I guess. I made an assumption that when I started working these numbers, you knew I was using the phantom monitor fix? Anyway, I hope you are right, I can easily change the numbers now that I understand how to. I will say this, I ran with and without the phantom monitor fix, and the results were similar.

To add to this, I experimented with something last night. Although my numbers are set for a 2560x 1600 on my main monitor resolution in the game options, and it does perform that, my desktop is set for 1152x864. Just to experiment, I changed my desktop to match my game resolution, and when I started the game, the cockpit was only on the left side of my monitor, while the desktop showed up on the right still. I don’t understand how the desktop resolution can have that impact? But that’s another issue entirely.

Thanks for the feedback, I will try your suggestion. Have you any feedback regarding my question asking with of the 2 locations I should be editing the options.lua file from? I mean, there is one in the virtual folder as well. Thanks

um...

dispense with the phantomMonitorFix exe until you get it working without it. The fewer variables in the equation, the better.

Can I confirm that you've dispensed with the phantom monitor fix exe for now? Get it working without that first.

This is why I said this. Twice.

Neither do I

Change your graphic options ingame, then check the last modified dates on both files and see which one DCS is looking at. Delete the other.

My interpretation of these statements is that I simply do not run it,not that I have to change the numbers we worked on.

I have a suspicion that if you don't have Fullscreen set, BS will use the desktop resolution. I can't check this right now.

I am thinking of writing a "Monitor Wizard" which will help with Monitor setups, I guess there is nothing like that already? No point reinventing the wheel.
