Anti Aliasing Degraded in 2.8

Hi,

I have noticed worse anti aliasing in 2.8 and it's quite noticeable.  See attached image. (Click on the image to enlarge it to see the jagged lines)

I am on a 4 k monitor.

All my settings are as I would normally have them (16x in game) and NVCP settings are as I have always had them.

I have tried different settings both in game and NVCP but no improvement.

I noticed this as well. I also run a 4k display and normally have my MSAA set to 4x. Last night I was testing performance and set it down to 2x and it looked awful. Something's up with Anti Aliasing.

16x is your Anisotropic Filtering settings. What is your Antialiasing setting in game?

Anisotropic Filtering = 16x

MSAA = 4x

SSAA, SSLR, SSAO = OFF

NVCP settings = Let application decide.

I tried changing all in-game settings, no improvement.

I tried overriding in-game settings using  NVCP, no improvement.

If you find a solution let me know.

It´s more noticeable in VR. Noticed in the first time i tried 2.8.

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'

I think it has something to do with the new lighting in 2.8

Can you please try to disable the Halloween effects and see if the MSAA issue goes away?

I had already disabled the Halloween effects "no_easter_eggs = true in autoexec.cfg" and it made no difference.

I see the exact opposite: MSAA x2 is OK, MSAA x4 is exactly as shown in OP.

Issue reported. 👍

I tested 2 x MSAA and there is a reduction of the problem but it is still there at different viewing distances and angles.

2 x MSAA also creates jagged lines on other parts of the airframe and taxi lines on taxi ways.

Anti-aliasing at 4k used to be near perfect but this update has degraded it.

I was happy to discover that I could maximize almost all settings and still have FPS ranging from acceptable to very good.
(I use Oculus Quest 2)
But I cannot get rid of those (new) jaggies. The horizon and clouds are flickering, and it is so distracting.
Clouds setting does not seem to affect anything but FPS. I've tried a few settings both in DCS and Nvidia control panel: No joy.

It seems that the problem appears on the runway or on the apron.

Once airborne, the problem seems to disappear.

I can confirm it happens in different aircraft types and at different air bases, and it happens on the apron areas as well as the runways.

Additionally, on the runway and the apron there also seems to be a "halo" where the main tyres touch the runway as well.

Maybe it's the runway/apron textures with 2.8 ?

+1 here. Noticed this right away first time i tried DCS after the update (Hornet and Viper).

I spawned an aircraft in a street and it does the same.

I haven't tried the Persian Gulf map.  Maybe it's ok there with the new lighting system ?

Found the problem...  It's the Terrain Object Shadows.

Flat gives you the problem. Off or Default is good.

But the flat option really needs to be fixed as the default option takes a big fps hit on some systems.

Having terrain shadows off fixes the FPS problem but looks silly with no aircraft  shadows on the ground.

Image below is with default.
