oscar19681 Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Ive been playing the Modified Georgian Hammer campaign for the Apache since some time. And one thing i noticed, and same go,s for all the other missions based on the caucusus man, is that its pretty damn hard, if not allmost impossible to hit and get to my mission targers such as tanks and apcs because 9 out of 10 times they are obscurred by trees and <profanity>. Thing is when i stalk the targets and hover and search the objective for targets with the TADS it is also 9 out of 10 times allmost impossible to spot any of the targets at all. Even when repositioning, it seems very hard to spot targets with the TADS out of the background, even when changing contrast. So how do you guys deal when facing targets obscured by trees if you dont mind me asking? Im at a loss.. Edited December 17, 2022 by oscar19681 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
NeedzWD40 Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Entirely situational, depending on the terrain and nature of it. If it's flat, then I try to get low and look under the trees; if it's rough and hilly, I try and come at high angles or different vectors if possible. Dense trees/urban tend to call for the M433 RC fused rockets to try and dislodge them. 1
Boogdud Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 Spotting is one thing, try actually doing any damage to a target that is remotely close to a tree. They're like force fields. 2

They're like force fields. As @Boogdudsays, trees are impenetrable bunkers in DCS. Make absolutely sure you have a clear LOS to your target. If not, relocate yourself until you do. Floyd1212 Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I've noticed with the recent patch that lasing through the trunks of trees, to armor beyond, is resulting in the missile impacting short. This T90 is out in the open beyond those trees, so the missile can definitely come down on it from above. I tried 6 times, and 5 out of the 6 the missile came down very short, near the row of hedges directly in the foreground. LRFD was set to LAST reflection. I feel like I would have been able to pull this shot off previously.
fjacobsen Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 There is an option on the weapons page to set whether the laser ranging should use the first or last reflection i.e the closest or the farthes object reflection. Maybe this also helps for designation. 1 1 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. NVMe SSD | 1x2TB M.2. Floyd1212 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 In my example with the screenshot above, where it missed 5 out of 6 times, I did have the LRFD set to LAST.
