I'm going insane. But I will summarize a bunch of threads and posts and videos for you.

Using the plasma torture map, avg fps is as follows:

7kX3D ~250

13th gen ~200

7k-non3D ~170

5kX3d ~160

12th gen ~120

5k-non3d ~90

Everything else lower ~60-80

I'd have to go back and look, but I believe the 5800X3D plazma benchmark posted back in the thread was done with the 180fps cap.

I can go back and re-run my 7800X3D with the 180fps cap, however it's not going to be possible to make an accurate 1:1 comparison due to other hardware difference (GPU, RAM... CPU PBO/CO settings), even with similar hardware but different brand.

If you get time, do a run with the 400 FPS cap along with Tacview and Mirrors Enabled.

Last time I checked, I got 5800X3D to 192 avg. FPS in Plazma test on ST build and 228 avg. FPS on MT build. Clean DCS with mirrors off.

I have 7800X3D on order, but not yet delivered, it will be a week or two.

We should make a new thread I think with collected results.

I just redid my 5800X3D, latest patch, complete test, 600FPS cap.

Buildzoid's Hynix DDR5 timings increased my bandwidth a bit, but dropped my latency a lot. Worth trying. Timings are stable.

Intresting, I will be trying this once I get my system built. I have my 7800X3D right here already, no case to build it in. Very annoying thing to be out of stock. Best RAM I could get was 6000Mhz C36 so hoping I can tune it a bit although I have seen some videos that say that ram timings are not that important with x3ds. I never knew if buildzoids process would work on a 64 gig kit, thanks for sharing.

Yesterday updated to a new Mbo and the AMD7800X3D, previous processor was an Intel i 9 10900K overclocked at 5.0.

Video card is a 4090

VR Varjo Aero

Huge FPS and smoothness increase, the AMD 7800X3D is a monster! so far no overclocking, just standard clock speeds.

Wanted to use AMD Master to overclock but for some reason the program does not run in my PC.

Any other recommended software for overclocking AMD processors

You will have to make sure you're getting Hynix and not Samsung. He did it on M-die, but A-die works as well. My kit is A-die. Trident Z5 Neo kits at (2x32GB) 64GB 6000 CL30 are likely all A-die for the moment.

Now it would be interesting to see how much that translates into actual DCS performance.

Yeah it is, should have mentioned that! I did a lot of looking and searching for RAM. Its Kington Fury Beast. Just could not get any Gskill over here and the only other kingston was renegade which says XMP only. Didn't want to risk it.. seen the jaystwocent video...

I'd love an Aero - very nice, enjoy it. Il'l stick to my Reverb G2 for now.

To overclock your 7800x3D you do not need any software, Ryzen Master does not give you a stable CO overclock anyway, you need to do it manually.

I would just go into the BIOS and enable PBO, and enable Curve Optimizer and start with a -10 so all core offset. You can fine tune this later if you wish, but realistically this will give you most of any available benefit.

Check out the overclock guides from Buildzoid's, his 7950x3d guide is fine to use.

Anyone tried today's patch on the 7950x3D?

I'm still checking it out on Plazma's, but seems for me it didn't do much. Not sure if anyone else with 7950X3D saw any improvement?

Kingston should be Hynix all aorund as they haven't used Samsung chips in as long as I can remember. XMP vs EXPO doesn't really matter, both will work in AM5 however BZs timings will be better than either.

Sadly motherboard manufacturers are very conservative with their implementation of their "scaling algorithm" for timings. They just take the JDEC spec and schmear it on... Which results in very loose timings.

I'm going to try this soon as I out the system back together. Replaced the 7800X3D that wouldn't post above 5800 on the RAM, new one seems to do much better. My 7700X was able to get a sizeable I crease in bandwith and drop in latency with BZs timings and then tuning them further.

1.  Stock XMP/EXPO

2. BZ's timings applied

3. Tuned Daily prior to upgrade

Your options for overclocking the 7800X3D are fairly limited as its max clocks are locked to 5050Mhz.

If you are on a high-end Asus board that supports AI OC, you can squeeze 150-200Mhz more out of it. Lastly, where you could get the biggest increase in clocks is via ECLK (external clock generator) if your motherboard supports it (usually only high end boards).

You can still tune PBO/CO2 to stay at boost longer and at lower Temps like you can with other Zen4 CPUs.

If you want to learn more, check out this guy. He does some great technical videos on overclocking.

I don't want to hold you guys back tuning the X3D chips, it sounds like some fun but there is this serious risc of burning it out.

Yeah, nothing definitive yet. Some have pointed  to Asus' Ai OC profiles. Something to keep an eye on.

Just been reading about this. First time I decide to go Asus and they seem to be having a lot of problems!! Kinda glad my case has been out of stock as I haven't built the PC yet. Did see the latest bios is dated 21/4/23 so hopefully this one is ok, may leave it all in the boxes for a while until this has been worked out.

I haven't had any issues on my B650E-F (currently on v.1410), but I may roll back to the 4/21 v1409 just to be  safe.

My 7800X3D arrived earlier than expected, so I've been able to install all the components yesterday and ran some DCS benchmarks myself. Compared to my previous 5800X3D with 4x16GB 3600 CL16 RAM, the new setup has 7800X3D with 2x32GB 6000MHz CL36 DDR5 RAM. Which I set to CL32 optimized secondary timings using Buildzoid's settings from the video posted above.

Overall, I see around 20% more FPS in DCS on 7800X3D vs 5800X3D, tweaking the memory timings and -20 Curve Optimizer adds another 2% on the Plazma test track. Most of that 2% is thanks to the timings, CO-20 is within the margin of error, even though the CPU boosts noticeably higher.

Likewise, CPU frametimes in VR are around 15% better, but that's harder to measure reliably.

Here's my old 5800X3D on Plasma test track, 1080p, no mirrors, clean DCS on High preset. Blue line is GPU usage:

image.png

Here's 7800X3D, same setup, all settings stock, with memory on EXPO profile (6000MHz CL36):

image.png

And here's after I added -20CO and tweaked memory timings.

image.png

20% increase in CPU performance is a substantial difference between CPU generations, but not really worth the upgrade from 5800X3D unless you have the money to burn. Also for those using older AM4 CPUs, 5800X3D is still a very good value upgrade compared to the cost of the whole new AM5/Intel platform.

All tests were done in 1080p. If you see such a huge difference from lowering the resolution, then most likely you are GPU limited in this test. I'm on 4090.
