I was watching some of the older Hornet videos and noticed the older CM panel which featured the ALE-39, ALQ-126B, and ALQ-162 controls before ED was able to get sufficient info on the ALE-47 and ASPJ. I'm wondering if it would be possible to reimplement these assets into the F-18 as a time period-based item (like the mission is set to prior to the ALE-47 reached IOC in 1998).

On the EW side nothing would actually change so it would basically just be cosmetic

To a degree, yes but they could reduce the flares and go back to the older type of flares used like how it was prior to 2.7.1. And programing would be done differently iirc.

ALE-39 has half the buckets that the 47 does and it is analog, not digital--so less value. Also, the lot 20 modeled here came with SMUG (SMS upgrade), RUG (RADAR upgrade to APG-73 from APG-65) and ALE-47 IRL. So it wouldn't make sense to make it an earlier lot jet.

And jamming I think would be cool, but also hard to model given all the dynamics of it. I would think it would have to jam all enemy RADARs to be useful. What would be cool is having EA-6Bs or EA-18Gs to jam for a strike package, but they have enough on their hands and doubt we'll see that stuff for a long time as it is still pretty classified. Pretty much everything they model here is tactically, real-world obsolete in the sense it is not, nor never will be the "new thing"/cutting edge stuff. Not that most DCS'ers would care, or should as those things are a matter of national security. There's enough here and coming to make it real world enough. Want it more real world? Join the military and actually fly the things!!! Lol...

Cheers, folks!
