Hi,

I am flying DCS again after a few years break. I remember some years ago, someone adviced me about AI dogfight skill level when trying to learn BFM, telling me the Ace level was pretty cheated and that it was more realistic to use a lower level. I was also told that SU27 was the easier and Mig 29 the hardest if ranking them for the same level.

I know AI dogfighting logic as been reworked lately.

Do the advices above are still pertinent in today’s DCS ?

Best regards,

Pierre

They cheat less and fight in a mostly sensible way now. Still not perfect, but now you can train against them and not build bad habits. You might have to lower the level at first, since the usual anti-AI tricks no longer work. You actually have to fly good BFM now.

this will end up being a lengthy and quite opinionated topic. so let me be one. AI has been reworked. There are several YT videos concerning it. each level does get progressively better. and sometimes the better levels do strange things. but that is really no different than before the rework. my take is that all of them can be defeated. start low and work your way up. even do guns only if you wish.

More improvements were added with the MT release as well.  The Mig-29S is now more aggressive with chaff and flare release, and they fire guns more aggressively.  Ace level tested.

As far I can tell, their flight models are still skill level dependent while the dogfight logic has been much improved. They have now greater knowlege how to fly and fight but still got cheating flight models and that wont be change until ED released the GFM (General flight model) which you can read more about here:
